Aww, but I like the little free pirate show in front of Treasure Island.

And, if you don't gamble, and if you don't care to sleep in a palacial hotel on the strip, you can go to Vegas on a shoe string.

There is so much to see and do there that costs absolutely nothing.

It pays to go informed, read up on it and pick out things that appeal to you ahead of time.

True, shopping is expensive - but good if you have the money.

Food - you have most of the top chefs in the world running restaurants there, but off the beaten track there are plenty of excellent restaurants with a low price tag.

Vegas is for everyone, young and old, gamble or not, rich or poor, party or not, it is so diverse that I can't think of anyone who couldn't find ways to have a superb time there.

This reminded me of my favorite off-the-strip activity. The Pinball Hall of Fame is located just a bus ride / taxi ride off the strip. It's a great way to lose an afternoon a quarter at a time -- without losing your bankroll.

One of the best things to do in Vegas is simply people watch. I love just walking up and down the strip. By 9pm most nights there are already plenty of drunks walking around. And just walk by the lines to get in the clubs - it's like "sexy" halloween costume parades!

Oh, and the show outside TI isn't that bad if you like girls shaking their goodies!

My boss a few years ago - who is totally NOT a las vegas type person was convinced by his family to spend a night on the strip during their trip out west. He couldn't believe there were girls in bathtubs in plain sight (Tao nightclub).

And apart from those kinds of things, the downtown area - Freemont St. experience is great... and that's where you can get fairly cheap souvenirs.

Like others have said, the people watching is possibly the best in the world. Such a variation from some who don't look like they have a quarter to their name (a bit sad really) to others who are flashing it for all to see (and equally as sad).

I spent a couple of weeks there early in the year after having done a few shorter drink and play trips over the years. I loved walking around the convention areas of the hotels as they all seemed to be empty when I was there. If you are sick of your hotel, sick of people and just want some quiet, it's the best place to hang out for a while. Mandalay Bay, Wynn etc all were basically empty when I was there as far as conventions were concerned.

Grab a car and get off the strip and see the outlying areas. We wandered down to Laughlin and had a ball amongst all the RVers and retired folk one day. Totally unexpected.

About the only things that annoy me are the card flickers late and night and all the crap and rubbish around early in the mornings. One guy did have a sense of humour about it all though and instead of sticking the cards people's faces, he just stood there and said, "Tits and arse," as he held up the cards. I think he might have been over qualified for the job.

Coffee and cake in the coffee shop at the Bellagio is much nicer than the numerous Starbucks too and you can sit there and look out at the pool area. Pity it was closed when I was there.

If you are a plane freak then you can stand at the end of the runway (short walk up the strip) and see the planes too. Maybe even aspire to arrive one day in one of the many private ones sitting around.

Or you can head back for breakfast after being out all night and sit and have breakfast (with Corona of course) with the head of the Austria Criminal Investigation organisation. True story.

Do I go (as in, regularly) - no.
I have been there before 3 times, the last being 2004.

Do I want to go again? YOU BETCHA - I LOVE IT!
(Living 6,000 miles away and having a wife & two very young kids makes it pretty unlikely though...)

Probably going to be a while until next time tough, I live even further away than KasinoKing, so it is a bit of a travel..

    Wink

I haven't visited Las Vegas yet, but it's clearly on my to do list, hopefully in the near future.
One of the impediments is the long distance( only 9838.731km or 6113.504miles ) plus the expenses
But as all of you said I'm sure it's worth the while.
Thank all for the interesting information about the place

Las Vegas is one of the best New Year's Eve spots. It's become to the destination of choice for New Year's on the West Coast of the U.S.

Andreea - something that might interest you is that the tours that happen around the world (musical, comedians etc) do shows in vegas that are very intimate (up to 30 people sometimes) and don't charge an arm and a leg to be there.. You could see someone like Eric Clapton do an acoustic set and actually get to speak with him etc..

And let me tell you, no matter what you see on the tv, nothing could prepare you for exactly how big and outrageous Vegas is. It is one of my favourite places in the world that I've visited.

And for the OP... 2 words - Spearmint Rhino.

Not yet, but I want to. Been hearing a lot of good things and experiences coming from those who have spent time trolling the place. Las Vegas is still on my wish list.

I love Vegas. I've only been there twice, but my wife and I have talked about moving to Boulder City (I love that little town, and it's only 20 miles away from the strip) whenever it becomes doable. My wife and I actually got married at the chapel in the Luxor!
