It's great! I find it an excellent community building tool and it allows you to share information in a way that can be even more powerful than a newsletter because it gets you on people's phones and gives you many possibilities for interaction.

Group chats, and if they come at 4 AM and you are sleeping because you are in a different time zone, and you have the notifications turned on because you use telegram as a communications tool as it was designed, so what, you get woke up.

Sure disabling the alerts or notifications can work, but then you wont get the emergency alert you should have.

And, if you are not very careful with settings, you expose the phone number to everyone.

As a communications tool for conversing with people on the other side of the planet, as a net enabled device it is a great tool. And Zuckerberg doesn't own it.

End to end encryption, not so sure. Have had specific conversations about specific consumer products, using telegram, and oddly enough next day both participants see ads for such products. Coincident?

Yes, Telegram is my favorite messenger for work, chatting with friends, and catching up on news and blogs. There are also a ton of useful bots and cool stickers. Someone earlier compared it to Skype, but in my opinion, they're completely different. After all, Telegram is more a competitor to WhatsApp and Viber.

Personally, I have never been a fan of Telegram as it feels unfamiliar and odd to me.

For me, telegram currently has the best ui/ux of all messengers. I use it both for work and for personal correspondence, and it is also convenient to store collected channels or groups in folders. The convenience is that the functions are intuitive - delete messages, send, subscribe, manage chats/groups/channels. It is also easy to connect it to websites to get different notifications, including notification of incoming tasks from CRM, notification that the server where my sites are hosted was disconnected.

End-to-end encryption? I have not yet found a single case among my acquaintances whose telegram was hacked.

The only troubling thing is that my brother, who works for the police, says that telegram can be somehow opened to get access and that it can be somehow intercepted / listened to. But he said that this is classified information... Or his superiors told him to use those messengers, which are really bugged=)

I've never used it and don't feel the need. However, seeing by the programmes that use it it seems to me that its main target market is Russia and Ukraine and other countries of the former USSR.

If some attractive programme required it then perhaps I would set it up for formality.
