DraftKings plans UK launch

The DFS giant may be pulling out of one U.S. state at a time, but now it looks like DK will finally take its product abroad. DraftKings says it plans to launch in the U.K. in the coming days.

Be interesting to see what product they think will sell in the UK too.

There is an established fantasy football market in the UK - but that's European football.
It's not "daily" based - with complete seasons dominating the scene and much of it free play too.

If they just take the existing daily baseball / basketball sports games across ... I think it will be a small market.

They did NOT get a gambling license in the United States and in fact the basis of their legal issues in a number of states in the US is that they claim their service is NOT gambling.

I am thinking, since the UK does treat online gambling much differently, I would think they would.

Oh yea I knew they were grey in the US. I thought the question was did they get a UK gaming license, which they did.

So daily fantasy isnt big in the UK? It may catch on as I do not think daily was big here in the states either until they launched and started offering the big prize pools. They pretty much made the market and I am sure they feel they can do the same thing in the UK. Eventhough gambling is legal in the UK, fantasy is a lot different. I never played until this year and I have been a gambler when it came to football (US) all my life but I did more fantasy this year than betting on individual games.

I think you may be on to something and the US Courts are most likely going to attempt to use their actions in the UK against them.

By getting a gaming license in the UK they have clearly shown they know and understand it is gambling and prosecutors would actually be foolish not to mention it in their cases. I do not know what the law is as far as using that as evidence, but it certainly shows intent and like Rob mentioned in the Calvin Ayre article, I think it does show they know their time may be limited in the US.
