Email Etiquette

Call me old fashioned but what has happened to etiquette when you send an email to someone you are greeting/emailing for the first time?

The amount of emails I receive from Affiliate Managers that start with:

Hey, Hello Dear and Hi Sweetie make my blood boil.

It’s also the quickest way to get your email deleted without being read!!

Totally agree! E-mails that start like that or have no salutation and appear nothing more than a text message do not get responses.

There are so many unprofessional e-mails being sent these days ..... then thee are the 10's of e-mails from different AM's from the same program spamming.

I agree with the above.

A greeting that also irritates me immensely, especially when they know your name, is "Good day" and nothing else.

That's how you greet a stranger while taking your dog for a walk.

Yes, same here. Usually they don't call me sweetie but Hey mate on first email (even Hi bro) is kind of out of context.

I do understand that there are some cultural differences, in some place people are more official, some are more open, but indeed AM's should feel the situation and the level of relation and act appropriately.

Appropriately is not even the right word here. But just Normal. without any "special effects". You meet someone at work for the first time you don't call him bro or mate or sweetie. so same here.

It's not what it used to be.

When they start off the email with: "hey, hello dear, hello sweetie, etc" it seems like they are getting under your skin (somehow).

This seems like a part of a general trend overall away from manners in general, but I'm not quite old enough to get on my old man soapbox about all of that just yet.

Then there are those that what to start a dialogue on Facebook and just say "Hi" with no mention of who they are or who they are with. Many tend to be time wasters.
