About LinkBacksThe fallout from "Black Friday" has been widespread, and it has now reached the Worldwide Leader of Sports. ESPN announced it will remove poker advertising and programming following the Department of Justice's indictments on PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker.
ESPN did not air the NAPT PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event and Bounty Shootout last night, as was scheduled.
From Bloomberg:
“We are aware of the indictment only through what has been announced publicly,” Bristol, Connecticut-based ESPN said yesterday in an e-mailed statement. “For the immediate future, we are making efforts to remove related advertising and programming pending further review.”

Knee jerk reaction imo. What does a land based poker tournament, (WSOP,WPT) have to do with this except the blatant teasing that stars and tilt did during the airings.
Perhaps it is just the sponsors pulled the ads and they can't fund the coverage?--

I'd be interested in seeing how this impacts the WSOP. There's a LOT of people who qualified online who likely won't be able to obtain their buyins. Will Tilt and Stars not put up the money for their sponsored pros to play in US-based events? Will pros not wear the logos because of the current situation?
There's a lot of unknowns on what will happen in the short-term

Seems a bit excessive. I'm sure that the poker was getting plenty of viewers. . . no reason to think that would drop off. . .

Its not fair that ESPN doesn't show poker programs anymore. I used to love watching all of them, and would even stay up late for them. Pretty crazy to think that the year is 2011, and something as common and popular as online poker is immoral and illegal? You'd think as time went on, people would become more intelligent and open minded? Completely ridiculous!
