Exact match domains

Hi there folks!

We launched a quite big project in the end of July this year. It's a Swedish football site called Fotboll.com.
The Swedish word for football (soccer) is obviously "fotboll" and we have been tracking our placements in the serp for quite some time.

We are ranking top 10 on a lot of keywords like "fotboll online", some teams, "fotboll TV" and some betting keywords, but not on "fotboll".

I don't expect us to be top 10 on "fotboll" already, but we can't get passed like page 27 on Google.

We have been changing titles, we are not spamming keywords either in content or in anchors but whatever we do, nothing makes a difference.

Bing and Yahoo got us on page 2, but that doesn't really matter.

We also analysed other heavy EMD websites that are ranking top 10, often nr1 and we can't find anything that we are really doing wrong. Some EMD's should honestly get penalised cause of heavy keyword spam when you look at them.

Any of you guys have any experience with shorter EMD's?

I just ran some serp tests for you. I checked Google.se ( as well as mobile), yahoo.se, and bing.se .
The main search term I ran the test for was "fotball" and "fotboll.com". My results are about the same as yours.
Your domain "fotboll.com" ranks #1 for all SE's.

It does seem like you should be ranking higher for "fotboll". I am not seeing ou in the first 50 spots. It will certainly take someone who could analyze your SEO to give you quality actionable advice.

Have you checked your backlinks? Has anyone given you spammy links? Any SEO "Experts" take your site and campaign?

fotboll could apply to several niches not just the betting industry. Are the sites above you all betting sites or are they in other areas that still use that term?

That's not true and is one of the crazy myths people have been spreading and being misinformed about regarding emd's. It's merely that you no longer get to leap frog to the top of page 1 when you have a crappy site, not that it gets "penalized." And that only makes sense. I was riding the top of page 1 for some of my domains when Google was allowing that and frankly it was perhaps a bit obscene compared to the quality sites I was dominating when all I had up was literally a single link, a single banner, and no content.

Check your back links. This is competitive niche so your competitors are spending a lot money on this

Yes i have full control over the backlinks in ahrefs and Search Console. There is no spam what i can find and Google shouldn't find the website spammy either. I can't see why the site should have a "algoritmic penalty".

Fotboll.com is not just about betting and i hope Google and users understand that. The websites that rank best on "fotboll" is a mix of news sites, TV-site and live score/betting services.
