Default Footballer dies of cardiac arrest during Rominia game

Many of you guys may have already seen this but I just came across this story.
    http://www.businessinsider.com/camer...16-5?r=UK&IR=T

If you watch the video, the second part from a different angle clearly shows there was no contact so it appears the collapse was not a direct result of being hit.

The article says he had only been on the field for about 7 minutes.

Obviously thoughts and prayers to his family and fans.

Unfortunately, nowadays sports is a big business and all players want to be superheroes.
I am sure that all the players get an "extra boost" in order to be able to become better and better. Side effects are rare but again risk is involving.

Maybe he had a previously undetectable heart condition that got past all the extensive medical checks that football clubs do when spending millions of euros on football talent.

Or maybe he used pharmaceuticals to boost his performance ... it happens in professional sport.

We will never know for sure, but there is a significant increase in cardiac arrest in football players with limited career options from the smaller leagues in Europe that do not have regular drug testing programs.

Sudden cardiac arrest is the most common cause of death, it is not just common in the professional sporting world. All hearts are not created equal, some people are unlucky in this regard.

I doubt any of the pharmaceuticals they would be taking for endurance is making them die suddenly at such a young age, unless of course they had a pre-existing heart condition.

I can understand footballers taking drugs for endurance, but anabolic steroids?

That's very disturbing video and situation. This part of alin's article posted is disturbing as well - "According to Digisport, the ambulance at Dinamo's stadium didn't have any equipment on it. It was only there for TRANSPORTATION."

We can only guess what caused collapse and death of a young man in sport shape, but anyway it's very sad, therefore RIP.

with roids the heart attack usually occurs years later, not while taking them at the time. look at all the dead wrestlers from the 80's and 90's

Injury recovery primarily - but also additional strength in a game that is combative especially in midfield.
The African players that excel in football are usually very strong - these are not Kenyan long distance runners we are talking about.

Here is a report from last year in the Telegraph that says 7.7% of players tested anonymously tested positive.
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/foo...oid-abuse.html

That's almost ... one player per team

UEFA says they got only 2 players in 2000 tests and they were both for recreational drugs but they only test Europa League and Champions League games ... down the leagues the testing is much reduced and the benefits are obvious (and so are the risks).

may i just point out as well that, especially in the uk but no reason not to include europe, that most of the drugs players will be involved in are recreational drugs and not roids. they can't get performance enhancing drugs out the bloods quick enough where as cocaine is done in a day.

in the uk even non league players can get random tests so they avoid the risk

As mentioned in the repoort above ..

High testosterone levels were found in urine samples of 7.7 percent of the 879 players tested by researchers, the study reportedly says, with the claim these could be explained by the use of anabolic steroids.
So it's 7.7% for testosterone / steroids, they don't mention recreational drugs in the article.

With steroids sporters do perform better. Professional football players will recover sooner from injuries, will have more power, lose fat, etc. Also top sport itself is not healthy and medics and doctors are not able to detect all heart problems.

Here they do drugs test in recreational gyms. The use of steroids is on the rise. Also some people even use it not in combination with fitness. It's ideal for lazy people that do not like fitness. Young people do take pills when they have a head ache, they do take pills when they're at a party and want to have pleasure and they also do take things to have a more muscled body or to perform better in their sport.

Anyway, it's not sure what is the case here. One thing is sure, this is very sad for this young guy and his family. May God have his soul!

they didn't test positive for steriods, they had high testosterone levels, 2 different things completely. it COULD be explained by drugs but at the same time they could just be sex mad

More info:The private ambulance company(Puls) which operated at Dinamo saw its activity shut for 30 days after Patrick Ekeng's death. The prosecutors found defibrillators without batteries inside the ambulance cars. A Romanian high state official says 'serious problems' were found in the procedure that was applied on Ekeng following his collapse.

Exactly what I was thinking. It catches up with them later in life. And in the case with pro wrestlers, a lot of the time, it is other stuff they are abusing that kills them, like prescription/recreational drugs.

Professional football is a harder aerobic activity than pro-wrestling ... it can have effects earlier

You want ot see the cost .. then look at the 11 guys who have died since 2015 from the wikipedia link above (reproduced again)
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o..._while_playing

I'm really struggling to understand why you think anabolic steriods is not a problem - other than to attempt to "win" a forum argument.
Or perhaps your just a UEFA troll? Nothing to see here ...

No seriously - drug use in professional sports is banned for a reason it IS dangerous for the athletes.
