I am thinking of starting a new website with a forum or at least a forum feel. I want user to be able to contribute if they want.

With that said, any suggestions on what platform to use? I was thinking Vbulliten. Comments/Suggestions?

Hosting recomendations?

I love vB and did a good deal of testing with other licensed board. Going with the 4.0 full package will give you the forum, blog and cms all of which your members can interact to whatever degree you choose. Forum posts can be promoted to articles, blogs etc.

I would suggest taking them up on the trial so you can play with it and decide if it will work for your site. They will give you a free version on their server for you to fiddle with. I think it is for a week but if you ask, they will extend the period. I think I had it for nearly a month before I bought my license.

As far as hosting, most any hosting service will work. I use Hostgator and am very pleased with them. Just be sure the host you choose has the minimum requirements to run VB.
