I wonder if a reciprocal link is necessary? The form shows no indication it is required. However, reading the reciprocation message tells me otherwise.

If you want to know whether the reciprical is necessary, why don't you ask?

My guess is that the form may not even submit if it doesn't see the link, and certainly even if it does submit it may not be approved sinced the approvals are done manually.

There is no reason to speculate, just ask hakank....

Although it is just a basic directory, I like the look and feel of it so I saw no reason not to give him a few links back for a few listings...

It's not necessary, however I appreciate a link back that's why the reciprocal field is there.

Do you think it would be ok if I altered the recip. link info and if anyone wants to link back to another site they could do that instead?
It will be a 3 way linking but still optional.

Since it is your directory, you can do what you want....

Personally, I might not submit if it forces a 3 way....but then again some would rather that....

I actually prefer creating exchanges at the forums with those webmasters I can talk to such as the GIA, GPWA, AGD and GAP.

I sorta prefer 1-to-1 exchanges, but I will do 3 way echanges with those I discuss this with on the forums....

Like I had said above, when you own the directory or the site you should be able to choose what you want....

But then again, so will your potential partners....

What bugs me are those that offer links from crappy sites if you'll link to their quality site....or worse, those that are so stuck on pr they do not know the difference between getting a boost on the little green bar on a page and will turn their nose up at someone offering a quality link from a page that happens to be a low pr....

But since it's their page it's their decision, but my decision in those cases are usually to decline the exchange....

But to get back on track, I have performed an exchange with hakank in the above listed directory and am pleased with the exchange.

Some webmasters think that a 3 way exchange is better because they think it gives the appearance that each of the links are really a 1 way link.

Lets say your site is domain1.com and you get a link from domain2.com, if you give a link back to domain2.com from domain1.com it´s what a call 1 on 1 or reciprocal link exchange !

If domain1.com give a link to domain2.com which then gives a link back to domain3.com it´s called a 3 way link exchange ! (which in most cases is only done to cheat/decive the search engines to think it´s a one way link)


Some webmasters (like me) don´t believe 3 way exchanges is good in the long run, while others disagree.

Since I check the pendings links twice a day I don't miss any.

Are you sure you added your link correctly? I haven't seen any new links in over a week.
