    Default Interesting

Interesting request. I would be interested to know how this guy has accomplished a PR8 if he is stealing content.

No Kidding! So much for trying to doing things the honest way! You get screwed by folks that scrape and get a higher ranking than legit sites!

    Default Pr8

Obviously Larry knows something the majority of do not. HOW does one get a PR8 with a gaming affiliate site?

I am sure if you contact him directly he will be direct and help you resolve your issue. If your content was posted first and google indexed the page first your page should be positioned higher than his anyway. I hope you resolve the issue.

What a shame, content theft is really getting out of hand now.

I don't think your condescending comments are productive. Dom has been around for years. And I do mean years.

I would suspect that Dom has already taken this course by contacting the site owner directly. However like most times nothing gets actioned until it's posted to a public webmaster forum.

When your around here a little longer you may realise that site scraping and all the other BS that rogue webmaster do, is an action that is frowned upon here.

Although you and others may view the shame campaign as an overkill or unwarranted, it's a very effective method in our fight against rogue webmasters pilfering others content and using it to feather their own nest of greed.

    Cheers

I just checked his site. It looks like a directory. His page is linked directly to your site. All his content appears to be set up that way. I'm not sure it can hurt you. I'm also unsure how he makes money from a site like this, unless he's selling listings.

The toolbar PR for his home page is actually 0 according to my browser.

Default did not mean to be condescending

Oh, I understand the issues. Although not being active in this forum I have been involved with the biz since 1994 so I do fully understand the issues as well. We deal with the same issues regularly as well.

I agree posting notices like this can help, although to what length I am not sure. I wonder how long it would take to list of our the sites who have scrapped our data.

Anyway, hope the issue gets resolved for Dom.

I post this actually as a "courtesy" to the thief. I give him a chance to react in case the email I have for him is not monitored.

If I hear nothing one way or another in 24 hours I will take further action.

I have little or no tolerance for this stuff.

I think alot of you affiliates are to kind to these sort of people who go out of there way to steal things that clearly dont belong to them, by giving them time to remove the Plagiarism is sending the wrong message,
if they were reported as soon as it was found out without giving them a warning wouldnt that hurt them more and maybe send out the message that it wont be tolerated,
If someone came to your house and stole something would you give them 24-36 hours to bring it back ?
i think you should report it and post that it has been reported instead of giving a thief time to cover his tracks,
it says alot for you people as human beings but when your in a business trying to pay the bills and put food on the table? ,
    just my 2 cents,

    Hi boozaa,

I sat here with a idea of what to write back but as I typed it, I started to think this just doesn't make sense.

If someone stole my car or robbed my house I'd be onto the police in instance to report it.

But steal my content or stuff from my website(s) and I generally don't do much about except post it here and whine about it. Till a week or so goes past and I then start to contact affiliate programs & submit spam complaints to google and what not.

Why I do this? It probably stems back to being online for years - since 95 actually. Back then the WWW was totally different. Then again so was life in general.

For instance when spam started you could contact the ISP or host provider and the site and account would be closed immediately. These days it almost takes a threat of legal action and a clean up bill to have anything done about spam.

In so far as content removal it's about the same.

I contacted a hosting provider last week in the USA (by phone) after sending 3 separate formal complaints. They just didn't seem to give a toss.

They tried to squirm out of it by saying it's not really their problem because 90% of their servers are re-sellers.

    Huh

You want to take that angle, fine. I'll just contact your upstream provider and keep going till I get this **** closed down.

Least to say within a few hours it was gone.

Still maybe taking a hard ass line on this is the only solution as you suggest.
Because frankly doing what we do now is certainly not decreasing it.

    Cheers

That is the truth. I had a NIGHTMARE experience with FatCow hosting and had to threaten a chargeback and they STILL kept funds that were not legally theirs to keep. $35 was just not worth the hassle.

Boozaa has a good point! hehe

Now that I've invested in trademarking my brand I will NOT be giving ANY warnings or notice of any kind. I'm done being nice!

I'm going to take action as soon as I leave the page or get information needed to get the site shut down asap.

    No second changes here!
