General not-necessarily-casino wordpress niche review site templates

Hi all.

Put this in chatter box because not directly related to portal sites.

I was wondering if anyone knows of good rating wordpress themes that are not casino specific, but similar functionality. I want to continue to focus on my casino site as first priority, though would like to make some review and ranking sites for some other non-gambling niches.

For example, I really like the the casino Mercury wordpress theme. I use it, and like the built in option to add site rankings lists for different categories like a built in widget. I also like the formats for the casino review template pages. The only thing is that the built in URL slug for the review page has "casinos" in the URL page.

Let's say I wanted to do something similar, with some niche herbal products or supplements not necessarily amazon products, or crypto tradebots, leverage trading sites, or maybe forex platforms. I am making some money from my casino portal site, and I hope to grow it into a much larger portion of my income. Though I think if I made about 4 to 6 sites for different niches, it may be worth it for me to supplement my online income(I've had some luck with off site promotions to my casino portal site, which I could apply to other niches).

Haven't found quite what I was looking for. There's other plugins for ranking widgets I could use with any theme, which I might go with. Though I like the all-in-one functionalities of the Mercury theme. Would like to both review and rank vendors and services on other niche sites, as well as create some pages to explore indivual products offered by different vendors.

There's probably a way to change the baked in slugs on the mercury theme, but editing code is not my aptitude. And a lot of the other themes I've came across are in the movie niche, which is not for me.

I'm sure there some other good "ranking" themes out there good for niche review and informational products, but not finding ones that quite meet what I want. And I do really like the format for some of the casino focused ones. While I will still spend most of my time pursuing the gambling niche, I think a handful of simple sites for a few select niches may help supplement my income some. Casino themes like Mercury look great for what I'm envisioning, but I really just don't want the casino slug in the urls(and it would be nice to have like the widgets for top games, or bonuses - but for coupon codes, as well as built in nicely formated template pages, with the star rating options built in).

Suggestions of plugins for ranking list widgets - rather than entire themes, would be welcome to.

I know there are many treads on this forum for wordpress themes, but I wanted to ask separately as would like to find one that better fits my needs so I can make a few sites in other niches - and what I'm looking for is very similar to general design of standard casino portal sites(and I've identified some niches, which had some good interest/money in them, but I don't see as many "portal" style sites competing as would be expected - for making directories with reviews - for some of the niches I've researched - but I think there is room for some.

I think you should be able to use any theme or plugin you choose, but make those choices based on the functions you are looking for. If you like the mercury theme and you are familiar with it, starting with that would be a first suggestion.

I am not sure how deeply embedded the word "casinos" for the slug is, but it might be as simple as a few changes in a file or two in the template files and then checking to see if there are references to such in the php files for the shortcodes.

My guess is someone here at the gpwa might be available for contract work to help you with that.

As for widgets to help with ranking, I have not used them much previously so could not recommend any but I am sure in the coming days you will get a few suggestions to look at.

Any of the pagebuilders like Astra Pro, Spectra, etc will offer ways of achieving what you want. Certainly you could create blocks to show the elements you'll need (with a learning curve), but there are probably presets you can use to get fast(er) results, too.

If you are using Elementor, the best theme, and certainly by far the fastest, is Hello Elementor.

Yeah I do like that theme. The editable slug by default is after /casino/ for review template pages, I'm sure if I tried changing it myself I may screw up how the short code shortcode widget blocks display and stuff. I have a friend who I potentially could pay to customize it, or someone from here, as the "games" part of the theme is similar (which I'd replace with "products"), and the "bonuses" part I'd replace with "coupons". Would be ideal if I could edit and publish the same way on wordpress as it's configured for those as well, with just different slugs, and the same short codes. Though maybe I will just try a different theme, maybe with elementor, and possibly a different shortcode plugin for easy ranking blocks with ratings.

I don't mean to double post, but I solved my own problem.

Mercury's official website, and control panel, has instructions to do exactly what I was looking for:

Literally an option for changing "casinos", "games", and "bonuses".

Perfect(and on the review pages, already option to chose any text besides "play now", can put "shop now" etc).

Long term, you might want to think about setting something up yourself. The problem with relying on a theme like this, particularly when using it for something that's not quite what it was intended for, is that you might run into issues later down the line that are a bit of a mess to fix.

I'm sure loads of us here used to use the flytonic themes. They ended up being largely abandoned for a while which ended with some compatibility issues (can't remember off the top of my head, but I'm guessing it was probably php related but might have been a WP upgrade).

Good point,

At the very least you might want to consider a child theme, just in case a theme update takes anything back to default settings.

A child theme just has a unique name and refers to the "parent" theme and both must exist in the theme folder.

Setting up a child theme is not hugely difficult and there are tons of articles explaining step-by-step how to do it. Only requires a handful of lines in a file or 2. This helps insure any customizations will not normally be over written with theme updates.

Recommended for most third party themes no matter what they are.
