    Default Google Maps Greed

Apparently Apple dumped Google Maps a few months ago, and Wikipedia around a month ago. I was wondering why, and apparently Google increased their priced from 4$ per additional 1k loads to 10$.

Companies are no starting to switch to that open community project openstreetmaps. I guess they didn't think this through or thought nobody will dare to leave them...

The question that I would ask myself about Apple these days is, is this happening because Steve left apple or because Apple is doing the correct thing, lol, most moves at this level are just plain strategic. I just mean don't overrate it.

I am glad to see that Apple and Wikipedia did this....

I haven't ever looked at openstreetmaps, but I may do so in the future.

At the rate of up to 25,000 per month for free, I can't see the average client needing to worry about having a google map on their page for customer directions etc...

....but....they need to make sure bots such as googlebot, msn etc etc aren't also ticking up the counters....and what about all the other garbage bots out there that scan the sites daily?

This may be a moot point as I have never actually looked at the api to see how it structures the link.

I actually checked out bing maps, they seem to have almost everything google does. However apparently Google's cars went around on every street, while Microsoft took the liberty to go around the big streets only .

It's good to see that companies are starting to show that they will not be playing by Google's whistle.
