Default Google New Link Disavow Tool live

The new tool is live at http://www.google.com/webmasters/too...vow-links-main
and Matt Cutts gives some details at http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...v=393nmCYFRtA#

I really don't know what to think of this. I am very careful with Google so called "gifts" for webmasters. To me it seems like a easy way to gather data and make an index of sites that should be ignored. Who needs new algo updates when people can make that themselves.

That's cool - I have a few sites that could probably do with some spring cleaning...

Now webmasters have to spend time analysing their backlink profiles to pick up bad links which only makes work pile up. Even if you are trying to some spring cleaning on your site this is not solid proof as your competitors can be doing negative seo on your site which would mean you have to be doing this all the time. They should just come up with a way of discrediting bad links automatically.

Be Careful about this tool, this look more a spammer trap (and for discovery link spam creation patterns) and some "good webmasters" could be affected by this operation.

I wouldn't use this unless you have received a negative email from google - at least that is what he is saying in that video.
What are google's motives? To create a list of spam sites? To discover if you have been buying cheap links? Don't kid me it is to do webmasters a favour. It is possibly for webmasters to give google information about which are spam sites and networks and who has been buying links from them.
He says: "It is possible to shoot yourself in the foot."
It is all mad, because if links could not damage you then this would not ever be needed. And links ought not to damage you, because a webmaster can not control all links pointing at his site. Google's idea of spam links should just be ignored, not penalise your site. As with everything, google have over-complicated things chasing around after 'spam' instead of simply ignoring it totally.

There is a legitmate use for this (though not if neg seo truely was not possible like google have claimed in the past). Second hand i know of a few webmasters that feel they have been the target of negative seo attacks. This would at least make it possible to clean up afterwards, though i'd agree you shouldn't even contemplate it unless you've received the dreaded email and maybe not even then.

That site would probably be marked as spammy or a site that is there only to host links.

I know one of the most respected SEO'ers in the UK and he has ran plenty of tests, both before and after all these recents updates. His conclussion was it was always and still is possible to nuke someones site by battering them with negative seo. Anyone that says different hasn't tested it correctly

Guessing it would get marked as an untrusted site. Hoping this means they would just discount all links, rather than pass penalties from it to any site that hasn't added it to their dissavow list. Esp as a lot of those sites might just be scrapers.

So in theory you could wreck a site by having 100's of sites add it to their dissavow list. But I'm also guessing that for a dissavow request to be counted, the site actually has to have a link to your site - which would make it harder to be used as a negative seo tool. My reasoning for this comes from where Cutt's talks about the fact that the page needs to recrawled and the link status changed. So no link, no 'dissavow' status.

Not a disavow tool.. it is ONLY a suggestion tool.

Using this tool does not guarantee google will ignore 'bad' or unwanted links, ALL this tool does is make a suggestion to google that the webmaster wants the links you select ignored.

Google will still decide what links to count and what links not to count, regardless of what the webmasters wants.

I can't believe how many people have been taken in by this google ploy of a phony "link removal' tool.

Let me ask you this... what good is a Link removal tool.. if it does not actually remove links?
    lol

This is a very interesting article about the tool and how Google might use the information it gets from it.

Millions of webmasters will be submitting long lists of low-quality or spammy sites, which Google can then use in its algorithm to penalize not only the sites that are providing these poor quality links, but also those that are linked to by these sites.

That would make sense "IF" google didn't know of the existence of said site or better yet didn't categorize the link as spam already. However, they did, and you're penalized. Meaning, the knowledge of the wrong doing is already in existence in some form held by google. So using the disavow tool won't likely provide them any more penalty than you already got. I am leaning towards some said above whereby google will simply be using the data sent as a means of sniffing out pure spam in their relentless and retarded search for spam instead of just ignoring it - which would make more sense to the sites, site owners, SEOs, consumers yada yada yada

    haha good one.

No google does care about money and this tool had to become available because with the changes in seo it make it easier to attack other websites and google had to listen to the cry of webmasters and seos saying they are encouraging black hat behavior

I gave up on Google a long time ago, getting rid of their tools, I unfortunately found out that the sites I had listed in Google usually did not perform as well as those that had not listed in the webmaster tools. Its rough trying to get away from the behemoth but it can be done and you can still make some money.
