Pinterest is registering nearly 100% of the 120+ Pinterest links I placed on Google Webmaster Central back links.
Also, testing I have been running exclusively on Pinterest is showing top ten improvements for medium level terms.

pinterest is another social site to add one's links to, and they do get indexed by google. But as far as getting traffic from pinterest, I hardly get any.
Gary, I know that your posts are designed to "tease" interest - but are you really suggesting that GOOGLE or any search engine should provide any sort of ranking value on Pinterest links?
Google has a tough enough time evaluating the value and relevance of content and text - before getting into the quality and relevance of image links.
Don't put words in my mouth.
I simply gave you facts.
120 pinterest, links showing in google, increased rankings.
Take is or ignore it.
And Gooner I have no hidden motives here, nor do I attempt to "Tease" anyone with my posts. That's simply BS and anyone that knows me knows that.
From Wikipedia ...
I apologise for attempting to engage a SEO expert using what I thought was common english language use instead of using SEO technical jargon ...A teaser campaign is an advertising campaign which typically consists of a series of small, cryptic, challenging advertisements that anticipate a larger, full-blown campaign for a product launch or otherwise important event. These advertisements are called "teasers" or "teaser ads".
I should have known better and will not do so again ...

No need for the nasty remarks mate.
What part of my post are you referring to?
Maybe you should do a bit of historical research before making false accusations publicly.
And by the way - no, I'm not suggesting - I am saying pinterest affects rankings. Why do you think I posted what I posted?...oh, its a teaser.

Hi Dan
Listen I can find sites that say just about anything you want to read. There are 100 that still say to use meta keywords.
But I am compelled to say two things;
1. I have been in SEO for 16 years and 50+ SEO conferences and another 50 or so Affiliate and Gaming conferences and I have never heard of these guys that you mention. The URL has been around since 2006 with more than one owner but that doesn't say much. There were big dips in historical information (archive.org) but that doesn't say anything either. Probably good guys trying to make an honest living.
2. I don't regurgitate what I post. I post the real results of real testing that I and long-time colleagues in this industry have tested thoroughly. I personally tested this gem through.
Yes Pinterest and all social media sends real traffic in a perfect world, but that wasn't what I was testing.
I wanted to know that if I only used Pinterest wou;d the rankings go up for an average site or a keyword with an average KEI and competition.
It did. And that was my point. I tested it very thoroughly and will show you the results if you wish.
Bottom line is this - it worked.
Give it a try and check back in two to three weeks.

Gaming is what SEO's do. Otherwise there would be no fun in it. What would Google do with all that time? And what about poor Matt Cutts, Danny Sullivan, Rand Fishkin and all the others?
Hence the reason I laugh everytime I read the redundant question,"Is SEO on it's way out" or something to that effect.
Gaming the system and THE MAN is what makes it so interesting.
I, for one, know that when I wake up at night, if I am running tests I'll pop by my computers incessantly checking rankings. Then I go to the bathroom. But I check my rankings first!.
Google SEO is a game of cat and mouse, and the mouse constantly moves the goalposts.

Hi Gary
You are right mate. I have been using Pinterest since they have gone live and have around 201 pins , 23 boards and i have been experiencing solid positive results not only for Google but also for the other search engines. And also gain %2 of referral traffic from Pinterest.
GaryTheScubaGuy (28 December 2012)
Dan I ran a little test and have results, but before I show you them I need to know if you were ranking in the top 100 prior to Dec 28th?
This would be for your top keyword (I believe) - ODDS COMPARISON
Cheers
Gary

You lost me the minute you claimed an absolute link between Pinterest + rank increases. Any "expert" should know better...
Feel free to PM with mutually beneficial opportunities; we do not sell links on our sites. Some sample pages: sell PokerStars tournament dollars| Rush poker
I used to play the SEO game like that, but I decided that making money was far more important than search engine rankings... and no top rankings do not always equal earning top money.
google only has to catch you once playing Blackhat SEO... you have go undetected everyday all day.. the odds are just not on your side... and when it comes to making a living... I want the odds on my side.
I do understand playing the SEO ego game, there was a time when I ranked sites for keywords just because I could and I would also check rankings first thing in the morning and then again every few minutes all day long... But like I said, now I would rather keep checking my affy accounts every few minutes to see how much money I have made, than check my SE rankings...![]()

Well I'm not sure what playbook you are playing from, but in my book higher rankings INCLUDE higher traffic and then you optimise for conversion and everything else, which in turn produce big checks.
And I've been an Affiliate for 16 years in this industry.
Google can catch you 100 times and not affect you. I have dozens of tester sites in multiple countries that we push the limits on constantly, only to recover them easily.
The opposite of creativity is cynicism and I assure you there is not a top 3 site in any competitive industry that isn't riding a thin line.
There was no "White Hat" before there was "Black Hat" And who made the rules up for this?
If I write an article about poker and add a link to my site or use lots0 relative terms, is that SE manipulation? Because I wrote it and didn't spin it does that mean its grey?
If I build ONE SINGLE LINK to my site rather than JUST writing articles and waiting for people to pick them up and link to them is that BH?
Is a press release with a link BH?
Anything you do to rank better is search manipulation and therefor Blackhat.

I guess I am getting old... I like to do things the easy way.
Gary, SEO your way is constant work, just keeping up rankings, too difficult for me... Besides if your always into SEO you have no time left to sell... and selling to people is where I make money.. not SEO.
FYI - I know you already know this... But you asked...
You asked who made the rules... Google did my friend. You know this.
Google is the one that decides what is 'blackhat' and what is 'whitehat'.
Just like they decide who ranks for what keywords in their search engine.
You can get upset about this fact all you want... But your anger at google won't change the facts.
I now choose to play by google's rules, simply because I want to make money with as little hassle as possible.
I do not want to spend my time in what I consider to be a wasted effort of trying to fool the google quality control team. But that is just me.
Just think of how much money you could have made with those "dozens of tester sites" you have, if you only would have been focused on making money with them, instead of just using them to test google's tolerance of your manipulation...
I can definitely see your point.
Unfortunately I sold out Affiliation after the US deregulation and continued SEO in England. The clients that come to me are usually targeting high value terms in Gaming and 90% hold little or no ranking. They are also up against the likes PP, WH and the Lads and their 50k per month spend on rankings.
I am also glad to be done with chasing paychecks and playing admin like I did. I'm more challenged and like to play with these sorts of things. Well that plus I get paid a lot better and have people in place to do the redundant things like content that is necessary.
I respect Affiliates a lot. I have always given my results away for free. Both here and at conferences because its a tough world out there.
Getting back to the original topic - Pinterest for Rankings; In a world where the top 3 spots can be worth 6 figures, anything that can earn you one spot and not be outright sadistic black hat tactics is worth noting. It's no different than having a Facebook Page or account for your portals.
I am just waiting for Dan to get back to me and I'll show you.
GaryTheScubaGuy
I would just like to point out the fact that just because you have links showing in google that say "links to you", does not mean your rankings have increased. I see no data in your post that shows increased rankings.
With that said Pinterest is a social network and search engines do include social validation in their ranking algorithm.
