Google position dropping rapidly

I'm building a brand new site www.pokerteacher.org, and within a week of opening it, i was in position 24 on google for the search term, poker teacher. I continued to add original content and swap links, and a week later i was position 74 for the same search. I have since added more original content, and gained a few more links, and have dropped to 89. If anybody could shed some light on this situation i'd be most grateful.

Typical of what happens to brand new sites.

Keep doing what you are doing and fight for the top. The 24th position was a temporary 'new site' rank boost all sites go through.

Build links.

Ps. You have more outgoing links than internal. That's looking like a link farmish to google.

Ok, as you know, you are in a very competitive area with not only poker, but a google search brings up video poker also.
G. will often give you a break at first, but then make u work to remain there.
Couple of suggestions:
1) sign up for Google webmaster tools to monitor your site.
2) create a site map and add each new page to it so G will notice.
3) You are guilty of 'keyword stuffing' in your title, description and keywords. Use the word poker 2, nor more than 3 times for each of these 3 meta tags.
4) look over your page content to pick out other keyword phrases that appear several times and use them in your tags.
5) Where's 'the meat' of your content? Each page should be at least 500 words and should link internally to another page.
This will keep you busy for a while.
The site builder I use offers 2 great tools, Analyze It that tells u if you will be indexed by G and if not how to correct it. Also, they automatically add new pages to your site map to be submitted to all 3 SEs.

Lastly, keep building content!

Your site is so new you don't have to be alarmed. SERPs actually takes time to be stable in Google and Yahoo. Your domain is competitive enough for this so you can always expect higher than 24 in time. Just be patient and avoid desperate traffic gain and you'll see.

One of my sites was thrown back by 5 pages within 24 hours. I attribute this possible to something else.

1. One of my sites is now public knowledge. The keywords and phrases within Google's index are being spammed like crazy.

2. Possible but not likely duplicate site penalty.

The site in question I just may toss out free of charge if anyone is interested. Stay tuned for further details. For those messing out with it I will dedicate this week an return fire.

I had the same thing happen when i launched my poker site, just sit back, keep working on content and linkbuilding and in 2 or 3 months you might very well be back up again! Keep us informed!

Ya just keep link building and link building and link building and soon no one around here will have to worry about your site being in competition with their site...

Oh ya be sure to swap as many links as you can... as fast as you can... Google just loves that... NOT!

Look at it this way- had you didn't put up more original content and swap links, as you did, you would have dropped a few dozen more places...

I don't think so... I don't think he would have dropped very much, if at all, if he would not have 'swapped links'...
But then what do I know.

I don't think it's worth to do many link exchanges. It's better to have several backlinks from high quality sites than thousands links from untrusted sites. And do not worry about your position, just continue to add your original content.

Thanks for all the advice guys. This is a real head spinner for me now. Everyone i've ever asked, especially on other poker affiliate forums, has always advised me to swap as many links as possible. I appreciate that some links have alot more juice than others, but all give a little benefit don't they? No matter how small? I've never before heard anybody say that if i hadn't have swapped links i'd have ranked higher. Please tell me what leads to this conclusion.

As far as google goes, right now... it's all about trust.

be very very careful who YOU link too. If you link to what google considers to be a 'bad' neighborhood you will NEVER rank... for anything... ever, except your own domain name... Especially if a site in a 'bad' neighborhood links back to you...

Any site that 'swaps' links is considered to be a 'bad' neighborhood by google (why do you think directories that charged for a link/listing lost all their PR?)...
Google has spent a LOT of money and time figuring out who is link swapping. Don't believe me check it out in google webmaster guidelines.

The idea that all links are good... is from 2002... several generations ago in SEO.

There is no silver bullet when it comes to getting good targeted search engine traffic.

Being unique and having good content that people like is the key... always has been.

When I started my site, it was my big mistake to exchange links with other sites without any knowledges. I spent a lot of time exchanging links, I exchanged links with many sites but I didn't have any success with traffic. I thought, if I had PR4 or PR5 I would have many visitors, but it was not true. And my friend told me that I needed to make my site interesting for my visitors, I needed to write more content, update my site with the latest news, reviews, games, bonuses and etc. And only when I stated working on my content, I had noticed that my traffic had been increased. Only original content helped me. I also noticed that visitors started coming back to my site, so I'm sure that the key of success is original content and don't worry about your positions in Google, just do your work.

Exchanging links is not the real key to more traffic. Write good quality content, include links to your site in blogs, press releases and articles. After 3-4 months you will be around the top. That's when the hard work begins! Keep writing, writing, writing!

Actually, link exchanges are used to share traffics and share the PR juice of one of the higher PR. It also gives quality backlinks for your site.

High traffic can be obtain only through keyword standing not through PR authority. Although PR can be a factor to make your keywords and site show up in Major SE.

Isn't the whole point that inlinks with your keywords in the anchor text make you appear higher for those keyword searches on google. Otherwise, how do you appear at number 1 for keywords. It's definately not from keyword stuffing, and to the best of my knowledge, google totally ignores meta tags.

Its always happen and that is an old issue. I mean keyword rankings dance always. Maybe there is a more competition on your keyword within the month. Do the same campaign everyday and get an update always on your keywords, especially the competition.
