Its true, the main problem the are not using the information in appropriate manner and they don't even let you know about it.
They use it to make more money and sometimes even selling some of the data to other companies for advertisement purposes.
I use to get SMS and emails from companies I've never even visit their sites... its a shame but what can I really do about it...

Personally I think this is wrong and in fact it is opposite.

I think today people are MORE AWARE of what privacy means. Sure it is obvious how poor people protect themselves and how careless many have become revealing personal details about themselves and their personal life that 10 years ago they would never have dreamed of telling their neighbors let alone people all over the world.

But I think people more and more are learning how much information the banks, utility companies, credit card banks, department stores and any other agencies are sharing about them.

The simple facts of using an email address for banks, insurance companies and utilities only suddenly getting hammered with spam a few months later alone is an indication that these companies are sharing their information. I also think that this is helping make people aware that it has been going on for many many years.

In my opinion I do not think people are more relaxed about privacy, I just think that people have become more foolish about what they reveal to who.

So everyone, go post on facebook how long your house will be empty when you go on vacation, the burglars in your neighborhood need to arrange their schedule.

Scanning for spam protection, should not, in my opinion, be used for better spam advertising for the provider.

    THIS.

This to me is exactly the same as all those parents posting nude pics of their children in the bath. People either don't realise the harm they could be doing to themselves by posting this stuff, or they just don't care.

My mother in law sent my other half a video of this kid dancing in the shower a few months back and said "watch this, it's very cute and funny". He wrote back to her and said, "thanks mum, but please don't send me videos like this again. If someone is looking at my emails they might think I'm a paedophile." She didn't even see it that way and when he pointed it out, she couldn't believe she didn't think of that. My point is that some people are just oblivious to what they are doing on the internet.

Now how many of you would never even have thought that?

You know that is one instance where I had not thought about it. I do think about google scanning my emails to find out I like advertising for online casinos and then seeing if I run some kind of black hat network. I also have found Adwords ads targeting this discussed in my email about things I never searched. An example would be my friend invited me to Disney world and next thing you know every sidebar had a princess on it.
