Default How bad is firefox now ?

I have seen 3 updates this year and each one was worse then the previous one. Screens are feezing, addons have spyware, sites look weird and the over all service is just horrible. It's no longer faster or safer so why stick with them.

It's been years but I am going back to IE right now.

With the new firefox the menu features have gone. How do I zoom in and out of a browser which was easily done before?

in the browser.. just press ALT and the menu will appear.

for zoom.. press "ctrl" and scroll the mouse..
or ctrl 0 for reset the zoom
or ctrl + for zoom in
or ctrl - for zoom out

should be the same for all browsers.

It was the same here, but I did not like the new layout and my plugins did not work so I went back to an older version.

i had one plugin which didnt work fo me. I loved the new layout.. its the same as what the "Opera" browser uses.. check it out if you want to see a light weight browser which is super faster. i can have close to 30 windows open in opera.. and it doesnt lag or crash..

I hate that they ahve moved the right mouse click option to "open link in new tab" to the top position instead of its previouse second position, I keep opening stuff in a new window, very annoying.

I hear you, that's why you need the addon I downloaded. It's called Menu Editor version 1.2.7, get it via the firefox addon section. It allows you to switch it . I also have Status-4-Evar, bringing your precious status bar, as well as Firefox 3 theme for Firefox 4, so my whole FF4 looks like the old 3.

As for Firefox, I am not sure if they are the real problem. The real problem is that pesky Adobe Flash Player. I would sometimes open up the task manager and would see plugin-container.exe at about 500MB Ram. Before Adobe, I've never ever seen flash player crash. Since they took over, that thing started crashing like crazy.

I tried using firefox 4 and didn't like it one bit, so I re-installed firefox 3.6.13.

The new firefox doesn't support the Zonealarm browser security toolbar either, and is more complicated to use. Not a very good upgrade by Mozilla in my opinion.

I took the liberty to try out the FF5 Beta1, if you are not happy with 4, more bad news on the way with version 5.

I use Firefox 4.0.1 on one of my systems and it seems ok, although I do not use zonealarm so not sure about the compatability issues.

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on the problems with 5 though xecutable.

    Hey Rick,

I wouldn't really call them problems. More like changing the unnecessary. I believe that FF2 and 3 were fine visually. This whole 4+ Chrome look alike migration seem pointless to me. If you are going to change something, at least give the users the choice to switch back. The taking out of the status bar, as well as the re-arranging of the menus, could have been options with tick marks for example.

Since it's beta, I am not going to talk about stability, since I've had a few crashes, but I am sure that will be fixed by the time it's released. Mozilla has always done a very good job fixing core problems, pretty sure version 5 will bring a lot of those. I guess I will just have use a few addons and themes to keep its looks more FF3 lookish.

And here's something personal that I have tested. One of my wordpress addons uses Datatables. It's plug-in for the jQuery Javascript library. That addon creates tables, and at the moment I have about 500 of them. FF3 and FF4 choke on the amount of data, and that's why I installed Chrome. Has no problem going through those tables in a second or two.

Sadly I was hoping FF5 will do the same, however not yet. Still chokes on it. I doubt it's hardware related as I am running on i7-950 with the new triple channel DDR3 @ 3.00GB.

PS. I've read that a lot of people experience 4.0 crashes, due to hardware. I've had none so far.

    Thanks for a thorough explanation.

Taking the time to do that will help member in the future make the decision whether or not to try it out.

I try to avoid Firefox as far as I can except for cases where FF is an absolute necessity. Even then I stuck with FF3 seing as how many problems were reported with FF4.

I'm an IE gal and I'm pretty happy with it.

I actually prefer IE as well.

However, on my boxes that I have upgraded to IE8, I use Firefox for my web-based email since my mail server has a few issues with IE8, and IE9 is totally unusable for mail.

You are welcome. I tend to rush into upgrades and updates, although I have been burnt with data loss and stuff numerous times .

@Amy then you are one of the enemy I'd never go back to IE
