    Question How does Google rank your site's mobile usability based on load time?

    In February 2017 Google published the following article:

    Find Out How You Stack Up to New Industry Benchmarks for Mobile Page Speed

    According to the article "The average time it takes to fully load a mobile landing page is 22 seconds, according to a new analysis.1 Yet 53% of mobile site visitors leave a page that takes longer than three seconds to load.2 That's a big problem."

    The article provides a tool to test the mobile performace of web pages. The tool is available at the following location:

    testmysite.thinkwithgoogle.com

    For this week's poll try out the tool on your website and let us know how your site did. The tool will also provide specific recommendations for how to improve your site.

    Find results can vary quite a lot from day to day. Some days 5 seconds and some 10 seconds.

    Thanks for sharing that. I've tested my websites and the result for both was Exellent.
    I think the results may vary depending from the hosting location, websites hosted in Europe or Australia may show different test results.

    Mine is good, at 5s... and that is tweaked to the max... I am running pro CDN, compressed images, full cache.. minified everything stripped out coding, Argo service... however with all the images and everything thats going on with my site I think thats pretty quick, gtmetrix and toolpingdom have me at 800ms ... obviously a plain text site is going to be lightening quick but I have found heavy design works best for me

    Oh how I envy professional webmaster/technical types and oh how I long to do all of these things to my own sites.

    -----

    FWIW, my site was rated at 5s = good = estimated loss of 19% of traffic

    I got 5s, so happy with that. I'll try different times of the day later to see if the results vary.

    Mine is slow, about 7s and also says something about cache. I dont get it. We have wp super cache installed and activated but still it always mentions the cache problem. To be fair I am a complete noob with stuff like that. Anyone have a clue, maybe some link, with info on that cache thing? Of course I googled but its really driving me crazy.

    Hi, add these codes to .htaccess:

    ## EXPIRES CACHING ##
    <IfModule mod_expires.c>
    ExpiresActive On
    ExpiresByType image/jpg "access 1 year"
    ExpiresByType image/jpeg "access 1 year"
    ExpiresByType image/gif "access 1 year"
    ExpiresByType image/png "access 1 year"
    ExpiresByType text/css "access 1 month"
    ExpiresByType text/html "access 1 month"
    ExpiresByType application/pdf "access 1 month"
    ExpiresByType text/x-javascript "access 1 month"
    ExpiresByType application/x-shockwave-flash "access 1 month"
    ExpiresByType image/x-icon "access 1 year"
    ExpiresDefault "access 1 month"
    </IfModule>
    ## EXPIRES CACHING ##

    <IfModule mod_gzip.c>
    mod_gzip_on Yes
    mod_gzip_dechunk Yes
    mod_gzip_item_include file \.(html?|txt|css|js|php|pl)$
    mod_gzip_item_include handler ^cgi-script$
    mod_gzip_item_include mime ^text/.*
    mod_gzip_item_include mime ^application/x-javascript.*
    mod_gzip_item_exclude mime ^image/.*
    mod_gzip_item_exclude rspheader ^Content-Encoding:.*gzip.*
    </IfModule>

    Then check again your website on Gtmetrix. WP super cache is a bit difficult to configure, you can try Comet cache

    Tested it twice, both times 4s and good on main sites. One site did get 7s though so I need to sort that out.

    Thanks mate! I have skipped this completely now after spending hours (not really successful) and just went with cdn cloudflare now... Still bad results here but I guess it will be fast enough okay anyway, thats what I am hoping at least.

    A CDN can help improve load times BUT if your hosting on cheap, over sold shared hosting (which a lot seem to do), then your behind the 8-ball from the word go. Basically no amount of code tweaking/htaccess, WP cache etc., is going to magically decrease you load times. I'm on a full managed SSD VPS (6gig ram and 4 cores), Both my WP sites load in under 1 sec. Of course that also depends on where the test server (node) is loading your site from

    Never mind, evidently it's just me. I tried a third browser and it worked. Ironically enough, the tool was not working on Epic Browser (based on Chrome) nor on Chrome itself. I loaded it up on Microsoft Edge (lol) and it worked.

    Been working on optimizing main site's speed. Dropped load time down to barely 3 seconds in this test, rated excellent now! Was on the ass end of 5s first time I tested it.
