    Default dmz

I have just submitted my new site to the dmz, only online for 4 weeks and has an a - z of poker rooms, google pr3, it's clean, it's tidy, easy to navigate, not many banners, unique content, over 18 warning as its online poker and approved portal by reputable organisations.
And my chances of being listed probably 0

The research that I was involved with was completed 2+ years ago and even though I would guess many of the same sites are still listed; a new investigation would give a clearer picture of the current state of affairs. That and I am not in a position to start naming names.

If you have the time, its an interesting study. To start just select a category and review each of the sites listed - simple enough. Take notes on whois, look at host, IPs, related sites etc where that is hidden, you make take notes about design traits of the sites listed, link partners, affiliate IDs in links.

The study a few of us had done showed that a very large percentage of sites listed in the Gambling categories were indeed related in one way or another (ownership and/or SEO efforts etc). In the last two years I figure the individuals/groups involved with this have surely improved their techiniques for masking their efforts, but if you look hard enough I'm certain you will find some connections.

It's not worth wasting your time with DMOZ. It is very difficult to be included and it takes a lot of time.

Right. There are a lot of top directory sites out there that can give a good visibility on Google even if they are new. They can now compete with DMOZ as because they are well established enough even if they are new. If I were them i just take the advantage of submitting in an article sites than directory sites.

I will have to agree with the people who claim that it is important to have a site with unique content written by yourself instead of text copy-pasted from an affiliate program in order to get accepted by DMOZ editors.

That is the only way I can explain why my site has been accepted to the Gambling Guides part of DMOZ. I do not know any of the editors (which surely can't hurt your chances of acceptance) and I am not a professional webmaster either. My approach to having a website is that I have played at online casinos for years thereby gaining knowledge and experiences which I write articles based upon and upload them on my site. Apparantly someone likes them

If you have a site that focusses more on relevant content than design/appearance, then you do have a chance. I had to wait months from my site to get approved, but it happened eventually.

I have been trying to get a few of my websites into DMOZ for over 2 years now, I finally just gave up. I figured with the amount of time I was spending changing things to try and get accepted that it was easier just to go and get links elsewhere, plus I really don't believe that DMOZ is anywhere near as good as it used to be.
