Question How often do you experience affiliate program payout delays?

Payments from some affiliate programs are predictable. On the good end, some can be counted on to consistently pay when they say. On the bad end, some consistently pay later than promised.

For this week's poll I ask how frequently you experience payout delays.

Besides voting in the poll, share your observations about payouts and payout delays. What brands that you work with shine, and do you promote them more heavily for that reason? How frequently are payment delays due to procedures the program put in place that you don't agree with, but are stuck with, such as referral quotas or minimum payout thresholds? And what other causes do you believe are at the root of payment delays?

Payments are generally OK for me, occasionally there's the odd delay with payments around financial year-end which I'd guess are deliberate to massage certain figures.

Quite rarely, and luckily those have been quite small amounts compared to big picture. Of course this is easy to mitigate by payment terms but need to have some position to be able to negotiate for example pre-payments.

Overall the delays are fine and come with an explanation. It is the ones that never pay or respond to communciation that are annoying.

I experience them sometimes, but I don't worry too much anymore if I don't get paid exactly the day I should. As long as I receive the payment within a few days at the latest and communication remains ongoing, I try not to stress so much. If more than a week goes by and no one responds, that is a different story.

I experience them often, chasing affiliate mangers via different channels (anything goes) has become a part of my weekly routine.

From our experience, payout delays in affiliate programs usually happen at the end of the month or quarter – especially when larger amounts are involved. Trusted brands tend to pay on time, but with some operators, you need to follow up with support regularly.

Some supposedly reputable programs in South Africa (locally licensed) seemingly continue to have issues with their software providers and this has been going on for a few years now.

While some programs don’t have a fixed payment date, the majority pay on time, typically on a set schedule, though occasional delays can happen.

It is certainly more common than it used to be. Many programs now have 60 day terms for invoices and even then often don't pay within that period. I do seem to spend a lot more time chasing payments than in the past.
