Hi,

Trying to set an https version of one of my sites.

2 questions:
first, i understand that http/https can be considered as duplicate content, so should i create a redirect rule to http, similar to www-non www?

and second, if i do create the rule, doesn't it negates the whole purpose of having the https version?

I wouldn't worry, Google is intelligent enough to know http and https is going to serve the same content, I've seen no evidence of duplicate content penlties.

If you do create the sub map, it negates the whole idea of https. I do worry about the same things, but it sounds quite unlogical that Google would push people to HTTPS on a side and penalize them on the other side because of duplicate content or mass loss of backlinks.

You've got any idea about that last one? If you've got a backlink ht*tp://yourwebsite.com and you migrate your website from http to https, does the backlink still count?

Http backlinks count for https website. Eventhough I think that there are still some issues with switching to https.

We have switched and for 1-2 weeks we've got loss on amount of users. More than that, when you switch to https you have to create a new account in google webmaster with https protocol. That bothers me most.

Why do you want to switch?
Have you read that: https://moz.com/blog/seo-tips-https-ssl ?


As I know shouldn't be any problem for SEO at all.

I found that one internal link was https and Google preferred that over http. Google ill award more credit to sites who have HTTPs although you lose more credit by setting up a redirect from http or https, there is no need, usually, to have a HTTPs unless you are processing sensitive information.
