For All Newcomers, a Word on Go Daddy

Go Daddy is without a doubt the finest web service I have ever signed on with. Their customer service is fast, friendly and speak real English. They actually downgraded my plan because after explaining to them what I was doing they said I did not need the plan I was on, changed my plan to a cheaper one and refunded me some of my money. I made two calls later that day with technical questions and they were answered quickly and in a language I could understand. (I am not a programmer) These folks are great.

When I purchased my first domain I paid for a slug of "stuff" I did not need as well. When I called and asked the CS team at GoDaddy they explained it all to me too. And also refunded the unneeded items. I have since bought many more domains from them and although I don't host with them I am very happy with the level of service they provide. It's also great to get the coupons from them when I approach renewal time.

Godaddy customer service sucks. They don't know what an htaccess file is - the replies are automated - and god forbid your site is injected with malware - they will certainly make sure they are not going to take the blame - even when they are at fault.

They still say over the phone that this was not a "Godaddy" issue.

Anyway maybe for domains its alright but I wouldnt depend on this company for hosting - especially when a problems comes up

To be fair to GoDaddy here, this appears to be affecting multiple hosting companies....

We are seeing multiple reports today of WordPress sites (running their latest version) getting compromised. The initial reports today were restricted only to Dreamhost, but now we are seeing the same pattern on blogs hosted at GoDaddy, Bluehost, Media temple and other places.
So, it doesn’t look like something specific to a hosting company. The only thing in similar is that all of them are on shared servers.

But my problem is they wouldn't admit it was a security breach with GD - when I explained the problem they said it was not a GD issue. That I think is the difference - I know one of the other hosting companies said yes there was a loop hole but we're fixing it - godaddy said no this is not ours maybe its wordpress.

When I explained its a static site using php they couldnt give an answer - and the attacks happened over multiple weeks.

Nor did they send out an email to customers saying we're having issues we recommend all customers change ftp information, passwords etc. The only notification that was given was a voice recording while on hold waiting to speak with support. And when I asked the rep why customers haven't received any warnings that something could be a muck - he said we have one when you call in. How many people call when they assume nothing is wrong?

Since then I've moved pretty much moved all hosting accounts - I will def keep them for my domains - but no longer hosting.

Ahhh - thanks for the update re; your personal experience with them. It sounds like they've taken a page from the Cake Network method of dealing with security holes...

I was never tempted to host with them. Only use them as a registrar. My good experiences with them were regarding registrations, SSL installation (and the correct SSL to use). I can't speak of the service for hosting.

I only use them to register domains... And they freely admit they make no profit on domains, only the other addons But yet they've given me great customer service and even when they call me up to help me consolidate my renewals and such, they dont try to sell me other stuff.

I just wish they'd send Danica to my door....
