Lightbulb Join the GPWA on facebook!

The Gambling Portal Webmasters Association has set up a presence on facebook, and we invite you to join us there!

To join our facebook group, just follow the link www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6784511126 to get to the GPWA facebook page, and then click on the "Join this Group" link just below the GPWA logo on the right side of the page. If your'e not already a facebook member, you'll need to sign up, but that takes just a minute or so.

We started the GPWA group on facebook three days ago on Sunday evening, and already have over 60 facebook members. I encourage everyone associated with the GPWA to join. Our setting up a GPWA group on facebook is just a first baby step. Facebook has an open architecture into which third-party applications can be integrated. We're going to take advantage of their development platform to roll out some really neat facebook features for GPWA members in the coming months. Join us there now so we can wow you with the fruits of our development efforts.

We're also taking advantage of our presence on facebook to post photos from the recent GPWA cocktail party at the Casino Affiliate Convention in Macau. So if you take a look at the facebook GPWA page, be sure to take a look at some of the party photos.

Over the very near term (the next couple months) we are viewing it will serve primarily as yet another communication channel where people can find out about the GPWA, and where we can provide information about what we are doing. Over the near term that also makes it a vehicle for connecting with GPWA members within the facebook world.

In the last week on facebook we have grown from a group that did not exist at all to one that has over 125 members in that environment. On a communication front, we are posting GPWA announcements there with a link to where they are posted in the GPWA forums. It will also be another vehicle for distribution of our weekly GPWA Times weekly electronic newsletter.

Over the longer term, facebook is an application development environment, and we have many ideas that we think make sense in that environment both for the GPWA (for industry participants) and for Casino City (for gaming enthusiasts who visit land-based and online casinos to play). Right now it is a bit premature to spill the beans on these ideas other to say that we are very excited about some of the possibilities we see to provide services that we think will become very, very, very popular over the long term.

Today I think of stand-alone websites and e-mail as being the two primary online methods for interacting with others, with search engines as the primary online publicity vehicle. I think that adding social networks (and facebook in particular) into the mix will change the dynamics in a very significant way over time. From a business perspective, I expect to put a significant portion of the GPWA and Casino City development resources into projects that will enable us to ride the wave of innovation possible given this social networking infrastructure.

Over the near term for GPWA members, I recommend joining facebook, and using it enough to understand what it does. I think at least some of our members will come up with creative insights from such involvement that will influence the way they evolve their business. In the case of the GPWA and Casino City, the insights I have developed are definitely changing the way we will evolve in very significant ways.

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for introducing me to facebook. I am liking it so far and started a group today.

Is there a place where we can add our facebooks in our profiles?

I would expect that to be one of the very first GPWA facebook integration features we implement! There is a long list, but we need to start with that. I also expect we will allow some sort of privacy controls on that front. For example, we will probably allow members to indicate that links to their facebook page will be available to everyone in their GPWA member profiles, to no one, or only to private members.

    Mojo,
Post the link to your new group here or on the GPWA Facebook page. I'm sure we'd all like to pop over for a look.

Thanks pokerkeep! I'm my only member lol. Is it ok to post our facebooks here? Not sure where to put it on the GPWA one.

Meanwhile, I added you as a friend.

Wow - the GPWA group on facebook has a lot of members... And I have no clue who is who for most of them! Looking through the list it makes me proud to realize the amount of diversity in our ranks.

Fr the record... matted on GPWA = matted on facebook (yes, I am that original!)

    I agree matted,

I had the same problem with identifying who people are - when you only know them by their handles, it gets tough!

Maybe we could ask that people post their handles somewhere.

Can anyone tell me about buying friends. The program doesn't say much. Do we use real money or is there a way to acquire credit. GamTrak bought me but I have no idea what I'm worth.

    Help!

I signed up as Mo Jo. I was just playing around with buying friends yesterday. I don't fully understand it yet but I bought a bunch of friends. Add the "Owned" application and you can see everything there and buy friends. They give you funds for doing different things.

You're right there is a lot of diversity. In the case of GPWA seal recipients, I think we have webmasters from around 30 different countries.

The plan is to (eventually) allow people who choose to do so be able to tie their facebook (and linkedin) and gpwa related identities together, and to allow those relationships to be visible (or not) to others. But that work has taken a back seat to the application development we're doing on facebook that will allow it to be used by webmasters to make some extra revenue that we're trying to get ready to be unveiled at CAC Amsterdam.

Yes, "owned" is an application that lets you do that, but there is a separate application called "Friends For Sale!" that is quite a bit more popular.

You can get to the page about "Friends for Sale!" by using the link www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=7019261521. Right now it has over 650,000 active users on a daily basis. This is the application that I've played around with the most, and that we used for the GPWA announced "acquisitions." I've also used the owned application a little, but don't like it nearly as much as Friends for Sale.
