Keywords - How is it actually done?

I've been following SEO for the last 2-3 years on and off. Just really interested in the subject but never an expert or worked full time.

One dilemma i've always had is. I've chosen 15 keywords i am interested in. Do i:

1. Write an article about each one? i would say, yes
2. Following step 1 you cannot write more than 2 articles using the same keyword focus as Yoast give a "cornerstone" warning message. So you do what ? Write more articles and make reference to that primary article containing the keyword with an internal link and an anchor text with one of my 15 keywords pointing towards it ?

Hi, I am not sure what you are saying about Step 2. Separate Articles yes. You should be careful not to use the same keyword more than once. If the keywords are related use deep text links between the articles but make sure all the link texts are relevant, both in and out. I do not think you should have as many as 15 links in each article, I would have thought about three. Hope that helps

Step 2 is article writing, for the 15 keywords. However how many articles can i write using the same keyword ? if i write more than one article for the same keyword i am inviting the articles to compete with each other for ranking

What i am trying to ask here is: how would you go about reinforcing your 15 keywords with other content ?

Practical example... my 15 keywords are:

ball, sport, basketball, football, pitch, coach, manager, sunlight, tea cup, monitor and credit cards.

i will write a super article about each of these with each being the focus keyword seperately.

But if i want to continue adding content.... would i:

1. find related subjects example payment methods and link to the credit card article ? and continue like this
2. ?

Here's what I'd do...using a couple of your examples....

let's start with credit cards and sunlight.

Write an in depth article on both.

In the credit cards article you'll have a brief section on 'different types of credit cards' with a link to a landing page of different credit cards...with each linking to a dedicated page (eg amex, barclaycard, etc etc, maybe even mentioning wallet payment options paypal etc which then gives you the option of more content/pages).

Each of those sub pages gives you content which you could use to link back to the higher level 'credit cards' page (but not always using the same anchor text!)

On the 'sunlight' page a link to 'credit cards' might be questionable, but you could probably weave something in. For example you could end up with a summary that says something like...''you can't buy sunlight of course. Well not unless you're OK to fly off to somewhere where it's guaranteed. If that's an option but you don't have the cash to hand, there are plenty of different credit cards that'll do the job though you'll be paying extra if you don't pay it off quickly''

That may not be a brilliant example but you get the point!

I wouldn't be thinking of interlinking all those pages (with the keywords/headings you mentioned) with each other, just use common sense and link where it's appropriate and adds value.


PS What you don't want to do is write a series of different articles on their own pages titled 'blue Amex cards'' 'gold amex cards' 'red amex cards' etc

I agree with Chaumi, some very sound advice. The internal linking of your pages is very important once you have set a strategy for the articles. Just think about how you are going to link them all together and don't compromise on the content to include the links. I don't envy you with the keywords you have chosen!

You have a set of 15 keywords. You write 15 pretty big articles 500+ words for sure on each of the keywords. New content should be around it, search for more keywords which are relevant. For example: main keyword is "ball games", so you write an article "History of the ball games", "TOP10 ball games popular in Europe", "What ball games could be played online?" etc, I hope you understand the concept.

A good seo tip is don't think you have to specifically write an article focusing on a particular keyword. When ranking google will look for similarities, i.e if you are looking to to rank for 'credit cards', simply writing an article just on credit cards isn't enough. Remember Google likes organic results, the more natural something looks the more favourable it will be. So what I am is saying is you want to be aiming to include similar words such as 'card payments' in articles which still link to the same destination URL, but it just looks a bit more natural, than the same 'credit cards' anchor text link.

Don't write an article based around a keyword. Write an article based around an idea or topic.

If said idea is a big subject area, break it down into sub pages as and when ncessary. Wikipedia does this perfectly, and is often rewarded.

For example they'll have a large article on 'Prison Break'. There's almost too much to cover on that one page, so it gets broken down into different series, then each actor has their own page.

Perhaps a bad example, but that's what I'm getting at.

Back in the day people would make 15 low quality articles. Nowadays Google rewards sites that would have 1 quality, monster/overview article and 3-4 sub articles that support the main article with additional details.

and it not considered by Search Engines.
