Let's Think Like a Spammer For One Minute

Let's pretend that I am a spammer and I own my own bingo site. I have used this forum and many others and just made one posts like the following:

Join my site and get £25 free, etc, etc, etc

What would you actually gain from this? Surly the posts get taken down in minutes? Do you get click throughs just before? Sounds pointless to me.

I think this type of technique is totally useless!
In the long term, it takes a lot of time to create account at the forums, and copy and paste the post in all those forums.
As well, most of the active forums mods will ban you immediately if you do SPAM like this and do not adhere to the forum rules and such.
Therefore, it actually does not benefit you at all.
At least being part of one of these communities and being an active member can help build credibility to your website, and you may be able to work with other link minded people to increase your websites SEO, and help to drive more traffic to your website.

The long term effects of this can be MUCH WORSE.

How you may ask?

Well, most of those forums you spam will be owned by affiliates, affiliates that are members of the GIA, GAP, GPWA, APCW, AGD, CAP and others....and we ALL talk and discuss spam and how to combat it, and the worst offenders of it.

And we also go to great lengths to report the spam to the affiliate programs, and for the worst offenders they risk losing their affiliate accounts and commissions earned from their spamming runs....

I think for many spammers it's naivety - they have a site and want traffic so they get their links out there.

Plus there are plenty of SEO companies based in india that hire people to just try to get as many links as possible.

Spamming is an extremely short term game, but does have its rewards. Take into consideration the following:

• Firstly, you have to remember this is techinically a forum full of webmasters who own gambling affiliate sites. As webmasters you are autotuned to detect spam without putting any thought into it. To the average Joe Bloggs who just signed-up to a forum however, it may seem like a good offer he must take advantage of. It may not work well here, but in other places it sure does.

• Someone going for it could make a post at a forum every 3 or 4 minutes, thats around 20 per hour. By the time the post has got deleted hundreds if not thousands of people have seen the post and I would suspect some have taken a look and signed up.

Agreed there are a lot off long term negative implications. Some people go for the less work, short term quick money route.

Rest assured, people do make money doing this... if they didn't it wouldn't happen on a large scale like it does.

Your post is still there more than 24 hours after you posted it. So if you were a spammer, you could get quite a few contacts.

I love the spam that people leave that is way too obvious that has around 20+ links per post about Hugg boots or something.

That is a great idea about the affiliates and other people getting involved and not just leaving it upto Google.

In order for me to be linked by as many websites who act as a watch dog over the internet, I am going to do an extraordinary thing that would make them consider my popularity. And so, posting "Join my site and get £25 free, etc, etc, etc" (though there's nothing behind the phrase) is what I think would be the best thing for me to do to get the attention I want. I will have this fake promotion scattered across forum boards for them to notice me and reward me a mention on their most precious watch list. When they do, they'll most like provide nofollow link to my site to allow curious readers to easily click to visit to learn something from my foolishness. And then, the visitors will be surprised because I will have all the quality contents ready for them to feed them good, so to erase the bad impression and have them consider my offerings. The spammers hat.

Fake promotion can sometimes help, but, then again, most likely only for a short period of time. I'd rather stay on the safest side than spend some time experimenting like what a spammer does.
