My own opinion - stay away from any kind of unnatural link building. Two years ago i have negative expirience
with link wheels. I try to use link wheels system for one of my sites. As are result = i lost all traffic from google.

Link Wheel, a pure content based do follow link building method which is still found to be effective as “Content is the King” and it is the strongly and only supported constraint for Google after all these algorithmic updates.

You must be very careful with link wheels today. In the past they were very attractive because you were able use the 1st tier link as a protection layer for your website. So you could spam the 2nd or 3rd tier to hell with all the spammy links. But since the last updates, google also devalues websites with too many links from penalized sites. So if any tier will be penalized by google it also touches your money site on the long term.

But if you do serious linkbuilding, of course you can link to your backlinks. It is still worth it in my opinion if you don´t do it the spammy way.

It really depends on what you are aiming for. They can be quite good for medium comp spam ranking, that is if you only want your site to last till the next update. I still use them for one page churn and burn sites and find them quite effective.

Guys, Link wheel works fine if you build quality links. Of course, if you build on tier 2 and 3 only spam links with automated programs you have pretty good chances to get a penalty. But if you build "natural" links, you will see the long term benefits.

Quality links or not, I would not build a link wheel unless my intentions were purely on spamming a site. Apparently (not that you can believe everything wrote about seo) Google had a big crackdown on looking for sites using link wheel methods. So I doubt it would make any difference if they were quality links or not, as long as they are all joined together, they would see it as bad.

link wheels are not great. Try focusing on traffic first and links that can send traffic.

Link wheels are almost unconsidered and comes in Google penalty. This is sharply mentioned in Google quality guidelines, that a website should not participate in link exchange and schemes.
