Why does spam bother you ?

I'm interested in getting the real picture.

I'm not a spammer i don't know how to do it
But why does it bother most affiliates ? when I get a pizza leaflet in my mail box/letter box I just throw it out.

Isn't it the same ?
Is it a privacy issue that bothers people ? I didn't sign up to that ?
Is it the fact that the spammers don't have to slave away at SEO and website optimization ? they kind of bypass all that , anyway id love to hear your thoughts

I think I speak for everybody when I say the big question and why it bothers us is we ask " where did this spammer get my email"

There is a hidden code for affiliates and spamming is frowned upon by many.

I for one don't need a bigger penis email and sandy from love the pole wanting to be my friend on a daily basis.

Spam bothers me for a number of reasons. I don't really liken it to the pizza/mail box analogy. Perhaps if you were getting thousands of pizza leaflets every week and the number just kept constantly increasing. There is the privacy issue for one, there is also the issue that some spam gets through filters and its time consuming going through everything clicking delete delete delete

It isn't the fact that spammers are taking a short cut as success rates for spam are low, everyone knows that even spammers which is why they cast a wide net

Every day, all day, one has to go through all new mail to filter out the junk. Deleted and junk folders fill will hundreds of unwanted messages and require regular emptying. That's my biggest issue. I can't imagine what it would be like to only get emails that I want to read before I delete or save. Can you imagine that? Betcha can't.

(Oh yeah, that reminds me, I've been intending to get a utility to filter out non-human senders...)

I agree with Gemma here.

Actually one of the most bothersome aspect - apart from the "Where did they get my email address?" is the fact that we need to spend time deleting the spam while this time could have been put to some more productive use.

Even the best filters do not totally succeed in sifting through the mess that is spam and over time more and more of them get through ***sigh***

Because it's really annoying. And yes, I also find junk mail (eg: take away menus) delivered to my house annoying too...

Spam costs me MONEY!!!!

If you wanna send me your crap offers, pay for the postage and send it to me by snail mail.

Spam uses valuable bandwith and server resources, and in reality I have to upgrade the mail server almost every year just to keep up with the overhead. (bandwith is NOT free)

Spam costs me a lot of valuable time in staying up on the latest trends that spammers use so I can continue to add more and more to the filters to control it.

The above doesn't even cover the amount of lost productivity in dealing with spam in my own email accounts.

It bothers me, but I don't really get a lot, and what gets sent to me, the gmail spam filter catches it. In fact I have a few inboxes pointing to my gmail so most of the unwanted stuff gets filtered.

Occasionally some affiliate that didn't even hide his links tries to spam me, where I just report him to the program and they take care of it.

What bothers me the most, and I go crazy when I read it "Under bla bla # of law, your email was taken from the public" trying to convince me that that's not a spam message and they are protected by law or something. In fact I had a good experience with that. A site for men/women perfumes sent me such letter, with the same bs excuse at the bottom.

I called the official distributor asked them if the following brands could be sold online, and that I am scared they might be fake. Pointed the site to them, when they told me, they prohibit all kinds of online sales on those luxurious brands and a few days later the site was gone.

Nevertheless this is the "lost productivity time" Rick was talking about. You stop doing whatever you are doing to deal with this. Perhaps a week later the same people are back in business under a new name with the same strategy, until someone that decides to devote time and effort doesn't stop them. It's a vicious circle.

Unless you start seeing people sent in jail for spam, I doubt there's a way to stop it or prevent it.

Seems to me you put a lot of thought into spamming yourself. Its not a get rich quick thing you think it might be. Not saying in all honesty your wanting to spam (just pokin ya :P ) However if you do, you will only tarnish yourself and any properties you work with. In the end you will only screw yourself... and if you spam... most will tell you to! lol

Simply, because my inbox belongs to me I pay for it. I don't really care about Gmail, hotmail, etc... these are built for junk mail anyway. But when something hits my personal inbox reserved for family and friends I freak out. Now having said dis I will likely receive some.

I get between 30-40K pieces of spam email a month to my private email account, which is on my own domain.

The only way I could easily manage it, was to host my domain via gmail.com - it doesn't let anything through. The odd one might get through - but 1 a month might be ok!

Spam annoys me particularly on this account because its my business and family email account. 2 important things.

I slide into the GPWA occasionally because I find the knowledge here is far superior than the rest. And trust me on that the members here have the talent!

Jail time for spammers happens more often today than years ago. This would also coincide with people receiving less spam. Not sure if this is attributed to better spam control features or more arrests.

But unfortunately Spam King Robert Soloway was just released from prison on March 4, 2011 after serving four years in the slammer. He was considered the teacher and architect behind the Viagra email spam pandemic. He would sell his handy work to other spammers spreading the emails using a massive Botnet network.

I heard today gmail accounts were compromised, Sony network remains down, and once again major hack attacks are targeting major classified military installations. For the most part email in general makes all this possible. Un-savvy email account holders neglect towards securing their email accounts is causing huge issues. It is fairly simple Do Not click the link in your inbox lol.

I get thousands of pieces of just each week, maybe even each day. I pay spamarrest to stop some and spam causes me to lose/miss important/valuable emails, because they get lost in the noise.

Spammers cost me money, time(money), make my efforts as user more difficult(money) and these don't include my thoughts about competing against them or being lumped in with this group of vandals by my potential clients.

Well said AmCan....and Peter, thanks for reminding me of Soloway....he just got out huh?

My guess is he will start up again, only this time will structure the emails different and skate the law for quite a while...that or he will end up consulting and help others spam successfully.
