    Default Melbourne Cup

So who is betting on the Melbourne Cup today?
Race is in about 50 minutes.

    I made 3 bets.

The first bet I made was in the hope that it will rain in Melbourne today.

I put $10 each way on horse 3 - Fiumicino NZ.
Apparently it's a goer in the mud. That's why i hope it rains.
    It's paying 71 bucks.

I also put 7.50 each way for number 1 (Viewed) and number 11 (Alcopop).

They are paying around 5 bucks.

Got an office sweep for 2 horses too:

    18 - Basaltico
    21 - Shocking

    Good luck everyone!

Me do not like Horse Racing, too each there own I suppose. My perception on the activity was developed early having grown up near a track. Lying awake at night hearing the thundering hooves, crackling whips, screams, cheers, and the occasional gunshot was enough for me.

I do not profess to know all the aspects of the sport, if one call it that, but I do know few things,

    1. Horses are whipped, kicked, and sometimes shot.
    2. Jockeys starve to win

The local track still stands but attendance has mainly been replaced with casino gamblers. No offense intended it just demonstrates how diverse people can be on certain issues.

This was the first year for as long as I can remember that I didn't sit and watch the race. Too busy surfing and no access to tv/computer/whatever else.

I didn't know that about racing horses. Thanks for the info.

While I don't agree at all on how these animals are treated, in fact I think that's disgusting, I think everything is relative. For example, our industry can cause many people to lose their whole lives.

N - It's a once a year horse race that stops the nation. Big bucks bet.

Very true Renee if I came off as being intolerant it was not my meaning. There are far worse things that disgust me.

Remember the shackled dancing bears the use to parade on the sidewalks of Greece. A horrible site the Greek Government finally outlawed the practice. But it still continues in other parts of the world.

    What can you do...
