Default Migration from http to https

Hey there, it's been a time since our first post (thread) here at GPWA. All information and topics here are extremely useful and this opens another question which is pretty much SEO related. Was wondering about a potential impact and difficulties when some other gambling affiliates switched from regular http to https. That thing is a must and we believe it's better to integrate it into our url sooner than later. Looking forward to learn more about your experience with that issue and mostly about link transfers (are old backlinks still working once you made that move)? What can get wrong during that process and what are the biggest possible fails that we must avoid? Is it possible to get few tips and recommendations how to do that transfer in safest and most reliable way?

Thanks for your attention! Best regards,
    Boris and Ivan.

I have actually been wanting to do this myself but didn't even think of the impact on links. Is there an impact? I look forward to seeing some responses on this as well.

Thanks! Will take a look on that thread and add a question if there is something unclear. However, everyone is welcome to share his personal experience - if he wants to, of course.

I have done it before. Here is what I did:

    (1) First install the ssl certificate. I used: https://www.gogetssl.com
    They were relatively inexpensive.
    (2) Then entered this into the .htaccess file:
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 80
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.example.com/$1 [R,L]

if you redirect http to https there shouldn't be a problem, and with https you are future proof.

There's no negative impact. Just do the migration careful and step-by-step. Also be sure you do not have any games or banners loading from a http. It will give an error and I suppose a negative impact.

I guess not migrating to https will have a more negative impact in the future.

If you do redirect from http >> https on the migrated site old links is not a problem.
I can't say that I have had any big ranking upswings from migrating to https.
However i definitely think its important to do, usually its not that complicated and the effort is worth it.

It's a quality assurance, your users will not get any warnings that you have a unsafe site, and the search engines will value that as well.
