    Default MUST READ: Google's Penguin Analysis

    This is a very informative study based on big amounts of actual data about site movements and the type of SEO done on them.

    http://www.micrositemasters.com/blog...ways-to-do-so/

    My few words on it. Niche backlinks are much more valuable (hurrah for 3way link exchange), diversify anchor text to it looks natural otherwise penalty is a sure thing.

    Interesting article. I guess in our case the answer to the popular question in the comments to the article, how to determine the niche relevancy, is quite obvious. Now I have another question: when you follow up on your own rankings, do you keep an eye on the competitors too?

    When the whole Penguin hoo-ha started a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that one of my main competitors completely disappeared from the SERP's (after ranking in top 5 for many months). As of today even searching by its quite unique domain name you cannot get to the site, meaning it was completely banned, though it is still indexed. Looking at their backlinks in OSE you kinda stop wondering why this happened - the site is linked from over 2,000 (!) unique domains with nearly 11,000 links. Now, how can that be considered natural? Rest assured, I am not competing with Yahoo! and alike.

    So have you noticed anything similar happening to your competitors, or (god forbid) to your own sites?

    @freeslots

    I haven't noticed anyone get banned in my niche and my own site is flying in the SERPs. Also the Penguin update brings an update of PageRank so be sure to take a look if there is any changes in your PR.

    Thanks for sharing this great article! It’s nice to see someone doing a Penguin-post mortem based on data instead of shots in the dark.

    My PR went up indeed (without any actual change in the WMT though)

    I think Google can not be trusted for their claims and actions it's a spoiled pet that has become a beast.

    IMO google uses the webmastertools to identify link rings as those I added were affected and the others were not (that much).
