I'm pleased to announce that we've built a completely new data center as part of an office space expansion at Casino City, and that the GPWA websites are now hosted in our new data center. The expansion and move went exactly as planned, which means that from the perspective of our GPWA members, it never happened. Or, at least downtime on the GPWA website was measured in minutes in the wee hours of the morning.
The infrastructure in our new datacenter is fully redundant, insuring that our sites are always available. For power, we have triple backup to our normal power from the local electrical utility: 1) UPS with a couple hours of battery, 2) automatic power transfer in the event of an electrical outage to a diesel generator, and 3) manual transfer to an additional set of gasoline power generators. For cooling, we have dual air conditioning systems, with each system having sufficient cooling ability to keep our server room at an acceptable temperature. And the air conditioning systems are efficient, and can use outside air when it is cool rather than running the compressors. Of course, we also continue to have the same redundant routing equipment and links to multiple internet backbones that we previously put in place.
I think our network services group did a wonderful job pulling off this upgrade and move according to plan.
