Of course the award is political, but with a small 'p'

Its not Obama who is seen in a bad light here - but the whole concept of the Nobel Peace Prize. I am no more or less hopeful that this president will have a positive influence in the world, any more than any other American President in the last 50 years.

I just think that giving the Nobel Prize so early has huge implications - namely a huge pressure on Obama to achieve a near superhuman task. World peace? He is not a contestant at a beauty pageant, and the prize nothing more than a 'incentive' to do good. The prize should be honouring actions which has actually lead to the significant development of peace - otherwise you debase the whole thing to nothing more than cheap theatrics. I think people tend to forget that an US President is only one man - who will eventually have to compromise to the House and the Senate. It's just a huge build up for disappointment.

I think it was an irresponsible thing to do, and the sooner we remove him from the pedestal the quicker he can move forward with actually making some changes for the world. Some of which, I can guarantee, we will not like. but that's just politics for you...

you can't please all the people all the time...

Not to mention the cash prize. I can just hear the hard core republicans now... "Now he is taking money from Foreigners!! Soon he will sell the entire American way of life!" lol...

I agree that it was far from over but there was plenty of years hard work and effort put into this before it even got to this stage. The Nobel Peace Prize was given to them for efforts done over a long time period, and without those efforts the path would not have been paved for the transition to move forward, that is what they were rewarded for, they opened the door for a brighter future.

The prize could have been there for encouragement as well but it was what happened to get it that far in the first place that was rewarded! Their actions not ideas is what made the world take notice!!

I wish Obama all the best and believe he will do well, but I just personally feel that there are more unmentioned people that are more derserving currently! Maybe once his idea are in place he could have been considered! As mentioned a few times, it is not Obama that is being critised but the process in how he was awarded the prize.

Yes right, because they should give the Nobel Peace Prize to someone who starts or prolongs more wars.... sorry I don't understand your logic there.
