    Default Over-optimization

One of the things Google's Penguin update is fighting is over-optimization. So how do you combat that (and future Google updates)? This SEO says you have to create natural user experiences.

No one ever sees a site unless its optimized. They are creating more harm then good with these updates IMO. I agree they need to get rid of the trash - but in the meantime they are hurting well established businesses in the process.

If no one does optimization in terms of say getting links their sites will never be scene.

Who cares if you add social media and the like - no one will ever get to your site.

And God forbid you have such wonderful content and you gain 100s of natural links - google will still consider this over optimization and your a gooner.

    What is user experience anyways?

    OMG....so if I over-optimize I could become a "Gooner".....

I know at least ONE MAN that is likely to say that could be a good thing.......

....but then again....what would we do if a whole bunch of us became "Gooners"?

    /end derail

Over optimization is just one way Google is getting rid of the competition.... That's you and me folks...

Google wants to become the online "Destination" for everything, from ticket sales to peddling diapers and even online gambling...

If you want to run a business online, I suggest you start to treat Google like a direct competitor or you will lose your business to google, like so many have.

According to Google the only good user experience is a google user experience... and that don't leave any place for you, me or the mom and pop websites in google's business plans.

Who said anything about hating google?

I am more about just not trusting them anymore.

I wonder if all those thousands of shopping sites that just lost their asses because google decided, google could do shopping better(better for google), hate google...

Those shopping sites were told by google a couple of years ago... "We(google) have no interest in becoming a shopping destination.".. so you can trust us(Analytics) with your very important site/business data.

Most all the shopping sites were/are using Google Analytics. Google took a couple of years studying the data GIVEN to them by the all those shopping sites that were using Analytics... then google decided they could make a lot of money from shopping...

Now all those small business are screwed... just because they trusted google.

Ever wondered why the big sites that view google as a competitor don't use google analytics?
    This is why.

I just wonder what profitable nitch google is going to target for a "better user experience" next... I know if I were selling tickets online, of any kind, my ass would be looking for a new source of income...

FYI - I intend to continue to squeeze every single bit of traffic I can from google... while giving google as little information about my site and business as possible. After all it is just business....

There is no secret formula according to me. All you have to do is "Being organic and producing organic content" Build for the readers not for the search engines. Doesn't it sound like the end of SEO business at all !?!

they basically want to encourage more people to fight each other with their content, not their links. If you get the first part right, the links will follow, however, i think gaming is an exception

Just be clever with your link building.. look at what a natural link profile looks like and copy it.

incorporate your brand name or URL into your anchor texts at least 60-70% of the time.. steer clear of sitewide links, blogroll links.
Dont over build for any particular pages or keywords, make it all look natural.

Penguin has not ruined SEO, its got rid of a lot of people who are bad at it which is great for the rest of us! If your link building is cheap and easy then you are doing it wrong!

I don't think Google cares if they hurt sites. They want search users to turn to pay-per click instead of Organic. It's business, and their ad reveneues are way down to what they were.

I know a Gooner - he's not so bad lol

Anyway, Google has to do something about the one page sites ranking in the top 10 for searches like online casino like this site

which have nothing to do with online casinos but yet sits second in my search while I other affiliates work their asses off for years and never see the first page of google.

    Hi Vinism & Others

All you have to do is simple. Post naturally, use correct wording and grammer (semantics) ! And add value to the web regarding the specific topic! Forget about any tactics and strategies and SEO consulting companies...

Its a shame that wether we like it or not we have to reply on Google for traffic as they have 80% of it. Lowrisk is right they just want more and more of use to use ad words thats why you now see the ad words as the top 3 and only 7 results in serps.
With regards to over optimization this was already rolled out with panda which was all on page and penguin more off page.
its silly things like dont keyword stuff so 1.5% max
too many ads above the fold
    low quality content etc

Agree with Madabout, but not only there are too many ads above the genuine search results, with the ads box getting brighter and brighter they look just like a genuine search result that sometimes there is no distinction between the ads and the local result

Another example of chicken little crying the sky is falling!
Matt Cutts never said Google would penalize sites for doing their SEO or that Google would even penalize sites that maximize their SEO. What Matt Cutts said in this interview at the 2012 SXSW is that Google is targeting those who, "FOR A LACK OF A BETTER WORD Over-optimize or overly doing their SEO."

This is where several of the SEO experts stopped and missed the rest of what Matt Cutts said

"...and then we also start to look at the people who sort of abuse it, whether they throw too many keywords on the page, or whether they exchange way too many links, or whatever they are doing to sort of go beyond what a normal person would expect in a particular area. So that is something where we continue to pay attention and we continue to work on it, and it is an active area where we’ve got several engineers on my team working on that right now."

Google is Targeting those that ABUSE SEO. Matt cutts was being kind when he said for lack of a better word, he was referring to black hat spammers and link buyers and sellers and any webmaster that abuses the Google Webmaster Guidelines to game the search engine.

What Google means is that if you abuse SEO by link dropping, link wheels, keyword stuffing, doorway pages, excessive backlinks from unrelated sites, paying for backlinks, backlink tracking and any other link exchange abuses then YES Google will target your site for penalties.

However, if you play by the rules Google has set up and do the right thing, instead of looking for another spam trick to shove your site everywhere it does not belong, then your site will benefit.
