So, Penguin did not come last week.

Newest info from G regarding this topic is that it's a "few weeks away".

So, they release a news that it will most likely come in a week, then they probably test it and realize it's still messed up hard and still need several additional weeks to make it right.

This to me raises the question wether they should ever have something like Penguin or not. Last time they implemented it it completely messed up everything. I mean, the fact that it takes 1+ year to refresh/update it is a clear proof that Google itself admitted that Penguin has been a major fail. If this would not be the case, they would have updated it by now.

So, the fact that it takes 1+ year to remake it, and then apparently when they test is just before the planned release it's still not good enough, just raises the question whether an algorithm such as Penguin should even exist at all.

Who knows what will happen in "a few weeks". What if Penguin will suck again and take down a large number of innocent sites? Will it take another 1+ year to "fix" it yet again? - I mean, Google has already proven that when they release a faulty update that causes collateral damage, they have no problems whatsoever to ignore said collateral damage.

I think Google unfortunately operates like the government now, implementing rules, regulations and penalties seemingly for noble and good reasons, which then screw up things even more and then you need more regulations to fix the mess caused by the old regulations and on and on it goes until stuff just breaks completely.

I think that this animal is a "too hot matter", too susceptible to negative SEO and they are testing and testing and re-testing it.
It was a "gamble" to put it live in April 2012.

    We will see...

thank you for your post. I still see some changes in the rankings from day to day so I think that there are still some updates running or at least some tests. I think we will see some more changes during the next weeks all the results does not seem to be very stabil at the moment.

The changes are still panda related, https://www.seroundtable.com/google-...esh-19287.html

They have been refreshing the algo for a while now, the serps are all over the place.

I don't know what the purpose of their updates are. The serps always seem to be dominated by blackhat sites.

    lol
Anything - except good quality content, e.g. anything called SEO - is never white hat how Google sees it. Even the purest "whitehat" is something where you manipulate SERP. What people wite that is white hat and safe is simply only what people write. But then there is reality and God=Google. And he does not like any manipulation.

What is called whitehat is something that can be distinguished from blackhat by two attributes:
    - whitehat is usually less efective
    - whitehat is usually worse detected by Google

But I do not see why people think that all algo updates should be focused only on blackhat.

It is different causality: what after all updates survives is probably more white than what did not survive. And that is it.

Do you really think Google wants people to put links to their own sites? I will tell you how Google would like (but still can not) value such links. As zero. because everyone of course wants to promote himself. But Google wants genuine signals that other promote you. Simple as that.

Your "whitehat" SEO was probably revealed and now wake up into reality, it was not white hat (and what is worse G saw it), therefore it was not welcome by G. You dropped. And that is the ultimate argument that you DID something wrong.

The argument of all white hat SEO gurus - I am doing white hat, because it is told this is white hat, is incredible. It should be instead: I am doing SEO (whitehat, blackhat, pinkcat...) and I am lucky I yet survived and fooled G!

Of course. This world simply always rewards risk with some premium. And in the online world even small extra points value a lot. That is the reality. The more updates will happen actually the more crazy it will be, since less and less tricks will work and those who will know them will eat bigger part of the cake.

Or become the big fish I do not know about PPC, I only did some experiments and lost little money with travel websites (though not that much as I thought, maybe -10%), but I guess even there are no easy money, even there some trick has to be present.

On the other side I am selling a lot of traffic to agencies and it is interesting to see for how much traffic is sold and for how much proper affiliate program can make especially on non-CPA model (not just gambling). The differences can be up to hundreds of %. I see a lot of potential with non major players (RTB exchanges etc) that have somewhat less strict ad policy than Google Adwords (or the new Facebook ad-agency).

Seems to be talks about it pretty much everywhere.

However, apparently the impact does not seem to be as drastic as imagined.

Might be just a test or something completely different?

I've seen nothing suggesting Penguin has rolled out yet.

I haven't personally seen anything so far either. It's only the talks on the forums.

My best guess is that Penguin has not rolled out yet in whole or in part. Looking at the serps, there is some movement on the terms I follow, but it looks to be more along the lines of a tweaking of the "EMD alg" or possibly a tweaking part of the slow "Panda update" talked about near the beginning of the month or maybe both.

That feeling when Google updates happen during nighttime USA, and you have to wait all until the important SEO people wake up to write and comment about it.

Many people in SEO say that it is penguin 3.0 that is rolling out. But the changes are not as big as expected.
For now changes are visible in English markets. I haven't read about anyone with German, Dutch or French sites noticing a new Penguin.

I haven't notice any changes on my own websites (most Dutch and French) so far.

And it appears that there indeed was a Penguin update: https://www.seroundtable.com/google-...n-3-19313.html

What's unclear at this moment is 1.) was it a refresh or an actual update? 2.) was it rolled out completely or is is yet another slow roll out like the last panda?

    Here's from a reliable source, http://searchengineland.com/google-r...te-year-206169
My site got hit by the update and it is actually pretty good.
I've noticed the changes on Google Search Result. One of my site climbed up from page 5 to 3
