I was so darn wrong almost all of the keywords that I ranked are nowhere to be found now. Not even in top 100. Amazing **** after I have build only white hat links in the last 2 months.

there are sites with 1000's of facebook likes and 1 page with little text and 3 banners eg and ranks really high.

It looks like Google messed up but I feel it is a decoy cuz they want to sell gambling traffic as ppc in the future to the big casinos /bookies etc as that probably will be the only way to get decent traffic.

you can not possibly know what hit you as the cutts dude is not providing a guide cuz he is an arse working for an arrogant search engine company.

I would love to see your example.

In your example it would appear that Google gave too much weight to the facebook likes.

I would think they would want to consider that if they think links could be so easily manipulated that they should start considering that facebook likes can be more easily be.

According to what I have heard from people working at google... there is no such thing as "Whitehat Link Building", all external "link building" is blackhat according to google.

If you build links to gain rank and traffic.. That is the definition of "BlackHat" to a googler.

You can call it whitehat, bluehat or even greehat, but your BUILDING back links... and Google calls that activity 'Blackhat'...

If you "build" inbound links, that are not obviously labeled as "Advertising"(no-follow/no-index) your going to get slapped right out of the google SERP.

If you want to gain traffic from google without having a total kickass site that lots of people can't wait to visit (and more importantly a site that webmasters want to voluntarily link to)... Your going to have to open your wallet and pay for the traffic...

The must bizzare thing is that some of my content got picked up naturally and spread itself virally and that is exactly what Google wants right?

And even so I got kicked badly... Nevermind moving forward towards more facebook traffic, building list and etc.

if its for the site in your siggy - i would seriously start by getting rid of all siggy posts everywhere. just my opinion but I feel like signature keyword anchors are killers!

Not really... as long as the site is not down for a prolonged time period.
A site being down for even a few days does not seem to hurt rankings, but I would not go much longer than a three or four days.

It also depends on the header response that googlebot gets from the site.
If the header is returning a 500 or some other server type error code, I think googlebot gives you a little more time, than if your returning a 404 type code for the entire site.

Quite easy to understand. Google wants to make SEO unpredictable so more people will use AdWords.
