Default ebooks - share or no share ?

This topic was recently brought up to me last night. I have a avast collection of ebooks, and some people thought i was a nice guy to share them, others brought up copywright infringement

So, thoughts? If you have a ebook, and send it (free of course) to a friend, is this much different then sharing a book you purchased ? or give away ?

I think is same thing...I have no issues sharing ebaook I have with others, but curious what other thoughts are? again, I give them FREE, I am not making money, but in theory, I CAN be hurting the author...

    Or who cares?

P.S. yes i have a recent ebook I got that i was sharing that is pretty good...I would share it here, but curious of the webmasters DUDES opinion also.

I think as long as you're not making a profit from it, it's totally fine..
Did you pay for the ebooks?

I would share ebooks if I had any.. no harm in sharing knowledge between friends
I guess you could say its like lending your dvd to a friend.

i hope so and as a favour here are some very important guidelines for you to memorize.

The Real Definition of Words When Used By Women

    1. Fine - I am right. This argument is over. You need to shut up.

    2. That's Okay - One of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. "That's okay" means she wants to think hard and long before deciding when and how you'll pay for your mistake.

    3. Nothing - The calm before the storm. This means "Something" and you better be on your toes. Note: Arguments that start with "Nothing" usually end with "Fine" (See #1).

    4. Five Minutes - If getting dress, this means half an hour. (Don't be mad about this. It's the same definition for you when it's your turn to do some chores around the house.

    5. Thanks - A woman is thanking you. Do not question this or faint. Just say, "You're welcome," and let it go.

    6. Loud Sigh - Not actually a word but rather a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. It means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is standing here wasting her time arguing with you about "Nothing." (See #3)

    7. Go Ahead - This is a dare, not permission. (Don't Do It!)

    8. Don't worry about it, I got it - The second most dangerous statement a woman can make. It means that a woman has asked a man several times to do something and is now doing it herself. (This will result in you asking at a later date, "What's wrong?" For the woman's response, see #3.)

This is from a typical woman.. not all of us are like that you know..
It takes me no more than 10 minutes to get ready to go out. That includes hair, makeup and clothes. I bet it takes me less time than some of the boys!

1, You don't make money from it

We seem to have double standards here ...

We all look out for people copying our websites and articles, when this happens we are ready for world war three. When it is mentioned on here we are all up in arms and offer advice on how to take action against the culprits.

We as a community frown on copyright issues, maybe because it is interfering with our earnings, maybe because it is a common courtesy.

Yet no one has said that sharing an ebook with friends is wrong.

Well, the guy who wrote the ebook, did so, most likely as part of his quest to earn money. He is selling this book to maybe feed his kids.

This is no different to copying a CD or a DVD or a game etc.

Now i am not casting judgement, neither am i knocking the sharing of this ebook, however, perhaps we should reconsider our views in this thread.

As the buyer of the ebook, you are no different to the buyer of content, would you be happy to buy content and then share it with people? Probably not.

I buy pirate DVDs and CDs and dont feel guilty, i buy books and lend them to friends and family, this does not twang at my conscience either, however, like stealing content, it is wrong.

Not sure what point i am trying to make here, however, i have sort of made it i think!

I think i am trying to say sharing the ebooks is wrong but i dont hold it against you!

    Paul

When I used to work in a "proper job" my department would buy one copy of a trade magazine and then have a circulation list within the department (and other depts) people on the circulation list would recieve the magazine in turn to read/copy articles.

Thats a similar thing isn't it?

I think it depends with the ebook you're sharing. Some Ebooks I reckon are really free and distributed in the net through some promotional sites. But some should be bought first like in the Amazon.

Although, some that had been diminishing in price value are then freely distributed through the net.

    No, not really.

It would be like your firm buying it and then lending it to the rest of the industry not just their own employees.

If the author is selling the book, then by lending it out you are doing the author out of royalties! If he is not selling it anymore and giving it free that is a different matter.

Come on guys, not being stroppy or anything but giving ebooks out to all and sundry is not on!

If you were the author and this happened to you how would you feel?

No offence meant to anyone saying different or to Casinojack either.
