    Default Pingback Troubles

Correct me if i'm wrong but i'm thinking that a Pingback is a good thing as it means that someone has linked to something on my web page.

Well, i've just received a Pingback from a site for one of my posts so i went to check it out. I saw that the person had taken my full content and had it translated to Italian. BUT at the end of the article, this person had added a link to my website. Is this a good thing? What should i do? Should i approve or delete or spam the pingback? Or should I email this person and ask for the article to be removed?

It's only recently that i've added the pingback plugin and i'm still learning how to use it. i'd appreciate any advice you have for me.

Many thanks in advance for your kind help. cheers

    Default Not Sure But.....

If the person using your article gave you credit with a link AND the site is legit and worth the back link I wouldn't have a problem with it. I am always leery of these kind of things and question the users motives.

    Pingbacks is different from Trackbacks.

"A pingback is one of three types of linkbacks, methods for Web authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. This enables authors to keep track of who is linking to, or referring to their articles. Some weblog software, such as Movable Type, Serendipity, WordPress and Telligent Community, support automatic pingbacks where all the links in a published article can be pinged when the article is published.

A trackback is one of three types of linkback methods for Web authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. ~ source: Wikipedia"

The difference between the two is that trackbacks are manually created while pingbacks are can be automated. Plus, pingbacks are less prone to spamming than trackbacks.

    Hi Zoorana!

I would say it is a good thing, providing people who use your content are linking to you then you will always be viewed as the authoritative source by search engines.

I would imagine a lot of the most popular information sites, such as Wikipedia, have millions of these and thrive from them.

    Cheers
