Default Quick Poll: Would You Pick Ahrefs Data or ChatGPT Suggestions?

    Hey everyone,

I’m currently re-evaluating my approach and overall mindset, so I’m running a quick survey out of curiosity.

    1. If you had to choose, would you go with an Ahrefs-rated keyword or one suggested by ChatGPT?
    2. And what about targeting a site found via Ahrefs (like from a competitor’s backlink profile) versus one recommended by ChatGPT - even if it has low organic traffic and domain rating, but is still considered a reliable source by the AI?

I'd pick 1 for Ahrefs keywords suggestions over ChatGPT, Ahrefs uses actual data they collect by crawling the web as google does. That being said I use both to get a general overview of the keywords that I should be targeting, I'm still learning all the ins and outs but I'd say both seem to help me out.

Personally I prioritize Ahrefs over ChatGPT because I find it more helpful, insightful and detailed. Besides that, it offers me more options for specific searches. That doesnīt say ChatGPT canīt be useful, but I wouldnīt go for it as the number one practice Like most of AI - itīs best used as a supportive tool.

I’d go with Ahrefs data, no doubt about it. That said, both tools continue to evolve, so that the answer may be different in the near future.

Ahrefs at the moment, however as a paid service they need to stay way ahead of the game - this thread alone would suggest there’s a considerable threat to their business model from AI - same can be said all around of course.

I do not know anything about recent SEO anymore. I also do not use ChatGPT AI (I work 24/7 mostly with Claude).

But I do not understand this dilemma. I have no idea why should one pick either ahrefs or ChatGPT? It is not the correct way to work with AI to ask what to do. AI is stupid and generally a YesMan. One should let AI to gather info and at the same time user should do DYOR; typically to ask AI about opinion, then import the ahrefs data into AI, then ask AI whether it insists on its opinion or not and most importantly to push AI into arguments why it says this or that.

AI is a language model. It is just a stupid machine after all. So it can do only stupid decisions so far. Even more stupid, when the question is a tiny sentence. Yes, it can bring a great ideas, but it does not work the way that it will bring it alone. It helps to sort out data, ideas, thoughts, arguments... but that is all. It gets constantly stuck with logic and needs to be recalibrated through arguments and reality checks.

If GPT considers a certain website to be a reliable source, as you say, it can transfer some traffic to that website. With Ahrefs, there is no traffic, unless it's competition.

I think everyone is right, but I'm just mentioning that GPT, unlike Ahrefs, is a source of organic traffic (not like Google, of course, but still). So if it recommends a website, it means that it also has a certain algorithm.

LLM has the only algorithm: to find out the most accurate end of sentence. I saw AI giving many times to give totally different answer in a similar situation like: Suggest a keyword vs. Suggest a keyword and use Ahrefs/any other data to brainstorm it with yourself and me.

It is just a tool. 1 of 10 situations come with a brilliant idea; 7/10 makes something incredibly fast, but needs polishing, 2/10 fcks up everything. Only a human can distinguish the brilliance from retardation.

LLM is very good at doing some average job better than anyone. The more it is niche, like searching for some rare problem, the more it is lost. Where most people were left stuck, it will just repeat the problems, because it is designed to follow the herd (unless precisely guided by operator not to do it). Finding a keyword seems to me like a niche thing. Business success generally is about finding what others do not see or what can be bought too cheaply. AI certainly can help to find it, but as I saw it "thinking", it will never or rarely do it by itself. Humans are needed.
