Default Why conferences **** off Affiliates!

There seems to be a misconception that affiliates enjoy conferences and welcome every email. Don't get me wrong. Many affiliates have a great time and enjoy meeting up with friends.

But what about those that cannot go? How do affiliates that are unable to travel get the benefits of those who are lucky enough to go?

Some simply cannot go, so do programs 'skim' to enable themselves to pay for dinner? Don't laugh! It's been asked before.

This is what pisses off affys.

Is it possible for aff programs to STOP sending me conference mails?

Hey Mojo - As promised here are a few ideas I had of the benefits a conference is for affiliates

    1) It allows us to produce educational content free of charge for all affiliates, new and old. i.e. the videos of sessions here http://www.igbaffiliate.com/content/video

    2) It allows GPWA to grow and invest further in the community, i.e. By having a partnership with GPWA we are able to give them a stand, logo, ads etc which helps them to generate not only new sponsorship but also new affiliates which means you get a better platform here for discussion thus helping you to improve as an affiliate but also affiliate rights as the voice becomes bigger.

    3) It helps industry issues to be sorted, i.e. when a program(s) goes rogue or introduces dodgy t&c's it allows a place where open discussion can take place face to face which most of the time means we have a positive progression away from this problem. Just look at all the meetinsg Michael Corfman has with programs when he is out there.

I will also try and think of some more benefits but I hope that will do for the moment. Also keep any eye on our emails as we also run online conferences, i.e. webinars, for example we ran 8 webinars over the summer that were free of charge for everyone.

As for emails from programs - As per my other post I would contact the relvent program and ask....You never know they may just stop

Meeting up with friends is just a small part of it. Meeting up with new affiliates and current affiliates I work with that I have never met is another part. I have been going to these conferences since 2005 (I think) and can say that I have met up with some very cool people and done some great busioness over the years. I have also dome some very bad business to...you know who you are!

Suggesting that programs skin to enable them to take people out for dinner is a very odd thing to say. Where did this come from?

Every conference we take a bunch of affiliates out, ranging from those that earn almost nothing to those that have been with us for years and are doing very well. We are an honest program and don't skim, yet we take out 15 to 20 people each conference. Most I can remember is 26 for dinner in London.

For us, its a way of showing some appreciation to the affiliates that can make the conference and a way of building relationships over a casual, fun dinner. Paid for out of the bosses pocket.

The only way I can take you off the list is to remove you from receiving any emails, or just don't read them.

I will be sending one out next week so it's probably best that you ignore that one!

But seriously, i did have a great evening with you in Amsterdam Martyn along with some other folks, none of whom i had ever met before and to me that is a value that conferences can provide.

The ability to meet some people face to face and of course the chance to do some business and establish relationships, as we have done Martyn and a good decision by me that has proven to be.

    Well so far that is

This has all been discussed many many times.

    I just don't fit in. I'm a misfit!

Just a rumour Martyn. It's been said before.

I'm going back in my hiding. Anthony, I'll catch you on skype.

I know cwc doens't skim martyn.

I'm just saying what some of us are to afraid to .

Last time I left the gpwa for 8 or 9 months because of conference propaganda.

I'll probably leave this time for good. If you're all lucky .

I really think it's for the best. Over the next weeks, there will be many many posts and emails about confs. After that, there will be another, and another. I just don't belong, and I will say why I'm out, because I'm not the only one.

Ah, I wish I could. But when programs are crying poverty and changing terms that are detrimental to affiliates it's hard to swallow. Players are having trouble getting paid in some cases. Doesn't exactly warrant a party.

Not talking about cwc, mind you. Just bringing awareness. There are far, far to many of these parties to ignore. I feel so strongly about it that I will not participate any more. Not that it matters, I'm usually ignored anyway.

Paula it is good that you bring up such issues. The question is not whether a conf. is good for affiliates or not. The question is why every affiliate should be bombarded with unsolicited emails for weeks before and after a conference has taken place.

But, that should not lead to your quitting the forum again, Paula. Even if you leave the forum you will still get the mails.

I had a hissy fit about JTodd NOT being sent to the Budapest conference on his facebook page this week because for the life of me I can't figure out why the GPWA would send Sheriff Anthony and NOT send JTodd instead or as well?

Some crazy stuff is going on, but it's not worth the hassle of trying to bother with it and it's obvious to me that no one is allowed to say anything because I've still not gotten an answer as to why someone that is as important to us affiliates would be denied access. Unreal.

This is no reflection on Anthony as anyone that's important knows that I think the world of him. I just wish JTodd was attending as well for those that truly trust him (as there are few that are trustworthy) to report back on things.

Mojo, don't read the threads and delete the emails.

JTodd must just not have gotten around to responding on facebook yet because he did mention to me that a question had been raised and he felt it was important that he did respond.

There is really not any crazy stuff going on, and I'm quite happy to explain exactly what was decided and why.

The bottom line is that with so many conferences it is really hard to have everyone attend all of them all of the time.

At the very beginning of August JTodd asked me if he would be going to Budapest because he said there were some family things going on around then and needed to know if he should push them back or not. Personally, I've always advocated internally for J.Todd's presense at these events, and continued to feel the same way about his going to Budapest at the time. However, it also became clear shortly thereafter that G2E (a month later in Las Vegas) was going to be including an iGaming pavilion and various speakers about iGaming that we thought would be important to cover from a news perspective. So at that time we reached a majority concensus that JTodd would attend G2E in November and not BAC in October.

In terms of overall APCW plans this year, JTodd has/will attend the following events: ICE and LAC in London in January, CAC Amsterdam in April, iGaming Super Show in Prague in May, and G2E in November. And Anthony attended the iGaming Super Show in Prague in May and will attend BAC in Budapest in October. Before this year Anthony never attended any of the conferences, and I think J.Todd is attending as many conferences this year as he did last year. We're trying to grow overall participation of the APCW at these events, but we also have to be somewhat restrained in how we do that so we are living within our economic means.

Thanks Nan. I'm still here, that Anthony is a sweet talker.

Even if no one agrees with me at least it gets pple talking. The mails start sometimes months before. There must be a way to separate conf mail from business mail so that we can opt out.

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for letting me know your thoughts on it. I guess the fact that the Professor was BANNED by Warren (according to Lou) from attending the conferences atleast until 2014 after the company he founded was stolen from him has left me suspicous. Plus the fact that it seemed to me from JTodd's facebook replies that he wanted to attend and was free to do so.

Being that JTodd is the one to bring us the news related to the industry and someone we trust to not partake in BS that plages our industry I just feel that if there is anything going on he will alert us to it where as others try to hide stuff that is relevant.

For instance I felt that during the Grand Prive/Microgamming/eCOGRA fiasco JTodd was GAGGED IMO and look at where that got us! Either way you are the boss and make the decisions and I will respect that.

BTW has anyone heard anything about Grand Prive attending this year?

You mean the rogue betgrandprive Robin

cant let them get away with a brand name change can we.

It was strange how J Todd sort of vanished as the campaign against Microgaming reached its zenith.

Was he gagged?, no idea and i trust Michaels integrity so wont make assumptions but i can easily see how it would be viewed as such.

don't want to derail this thread but a thread updating the current status of the campaign against rogue betgarndprive would be interesting.
