Default remembrance day in bad tatse

Remembrance day gambling promotions are in bad taste. My inbox is full of "remembrance day" promotions. Get a grip people. Its not a special day to deposit but a day of remembrance.

If the program you represent does them you should speak out.

I had an e-mail from a merchant (a casino or poker room - I really wish I could remember who) suggesting we send out mailers 'cos people would be at home for remembrance day.

    Very poor taste.

Rememberance day, for Aussies is a big deal here, one minute silence to remember those who died or suffered for Australians in conflicts and wars past and present.

Not sure if you are aware why poppies are sold on Rememberance Day, but it has to do with a poem written by a soldier in World War I. The Poppies grew on the battlefields and cemeteries where soliders were buried.

    This is the poem..

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.
