Smile Return of Google Panda - DoorWay Pages SEO Penalty

    Hello GPWA Members,

Google just announced another Change in algorithm, and this time it’s targeting doorway pages. The easiest way to check your site Doorway pages from Google point of view is Go to Google.com and type site:domain.com ( just Replace domain.com with your Domain name) .

This will show all the indexed pages from your blog/website. Check if any of your archive pages (tags, categories, author), or search results pages are not indexed in search engine. If it is, you should no-index them.

This news sounded like a part of Panda, as this target pages with low-quality pages.

Anyone Notice This Changes In Google you can Comment.

    Thanks

While you may be onto something with this (thanks), I highly doubt Google would penalize someone for having a tag page or an archive page, which are standard parts of any decent website and fulfill the purpose of a HTML sitemap. That would pretty much mean every Wordpress user out there is in danger of a penalty.

What Google is targeting with this are black hat webmasters who started a doorway campaign, not people with an archive page.

Doesn't hurt to check your listed pages for stuff that might be interpreted as a doorway page though. We all know Matt Cutts isn't very bright.

I was hoping that google would focus more on removing hacked pages from their index. They just keep on popping up like mushrooms and pushing the legit sites down.

404 is already notifing google that there is no page there and not to index. If you have incomming traffic to those you may want to redirect if it is legit good traffic.

This update/change will hit the hacker pages...at least it should. They are prime examples of doorway pages (IMO), ranking for content then showing the user a list of unrelated casinos with very little else. Different to a landing page.

The site: query was how we used to find what pages where in the google main index and the supplemental index but I read Google stopped with the suppemental index a long time ago.

I personally like to use site: to see all page title and desc meta tags plus the snippet Google displays. Anything with 3 dots after is too long. You can also check for typos.

I just saw this on seoroundtable here, If your site comes up as having a doorway page, remember that google does experiments and this may not be permanent. You may be doing more damage than good if you make changes to your site. Unless you are using it specifically to manipulate the engines. My two cents.

don't delete them there, let google manage it, 404 is telling google to remove!

Hahaha How about doorway pages viewed by Bing or Yahoo?
Big G have so many changes that soon sitemaps become considered as no-no doorway to your site

The method normally is to redirect the missing links or pages (like pages you deleted or from idiots that link to bad addresses on your site intentionally) and then telling Google you fixed the link.

If you see a lot of links pointing at you that are all 404's from the same domain or a small number of domains you will likely want to disavow the domain.

When panda was rolled out for the first time, my site got penalized. And all this happen just because of ignorance because at that time i was newbie and someone told me that you can share the article of your site to the article directories and started doing so. Since then i updated myself, before doing anything i do research. I stopped creating tag, category, archive and other pages since then only, so now i feel safe. Thanks to God.
