Default Yahoo Directory - did you ever submitted a site?

We tried to submit our site to Yahoo Directory and we received a curious answer...
A couples of time ago we paid funds to yahoo to take in consideration our site to this category of yahoo directory: http://dir.yahoo.com/Recreation/Gambling … which we reputed perfect for our site. After some days we received this answer from Yahoo:

with Yahoo! Directory Submit Order We're sorry to report that your site did not qualify for listing using the Yahoo! Directory Submit service. Yahoo! does not accept listings for online gambling sites. Online gambling sites are those that have gambling as their central theme, including those that accept wagers or require payment in exchange for the chance to win prizes, as well as sites that offer both information and links related primarily to the promotion of online gambling.

For this reason, your order has been forwarded to our billing
team for a full refund of the Yahoo! Directory Submit fee.

Ok, yahoo do not accept gambling sites?
So this category http://dir.yahoo.com/Recreation/Gambling/ what is? they talk about cakes? i personally seen to insert new sites on a regular basis on that and sub categories. I think there's no more to say, you can Judge by yourselves. Regarding refund ..we are still waiting.
To lose your money is delusional, but loose your money and be teased is even more disappointing

Seems like a lot of people have been talking about this lately. Apparently this was always Yahoo US policy, but submissions of Gambling Sites were possible in the UK version from what I have read around the forums. However they took away that feature so now you can only do it through the US one, hence it's a merry-go-around.

What's even more interesting is that every person who submitted a gambling site recently got the $299.99 non-refundable fee, refunded.

I'm sure i've seen Yahoo! accept new casino websites in their gambling listings, even though they don't accept them now apparently. I think either way its not worth their huge fees every year just for one link, your better off using that money for articles and other permanent links.

    Key to getting into yahoo....

    1) Create a high quality site with no affiliate promotions whatsoever (strictly informational)
    2) Submit to Yahoo
    3) Get accepted
    4) Add affiliate stuff

Spot on I often believe that is the best way to get a new site of the ground in general.

It's the best paid directory around. Go ahead and try DMOZ, but don't expect results for 12+ months, if at all...unless your site is non-monetized and non-commercial.

If your site is an AdSense/Affiliate site, I wouldn't bother unless you're currently making 300/month or so from it. If you run a regular business with products and plan on keeping it for years to come you might want to give it a go. Still, unless you're PROFITING 300/month or more from your sales i wouldn't bother. Just my 2 cents.

But I don't know whether Yahoo accepting Gambling links or not. I haven't tried it yet.

Got the same answer from Yahoo last week. I've now submitted my site to Best of the Web (botw.org). They charge $149,95 per year and do accept gambling sites.

Correct, but since I'm unsure of this submission's impact, I've choosen the annual version. At a later date it's still possible to change to the lifetime listing.

Sure they can. You agreed to the T & C's when you submitted right? They clearly state that they don't accept gambling websites and also states that submissions are non-refundable. Your fee is to bump you ahead of the free service.

The directory is editorial - not pay and get listed or refund if rejected.Be thankful if you see your refund - as it's not a requirement.

    https://ecom.yahoo.com/dir/reference/submit

You acknowledge that the payment of this fee is for consideration of your site AND DOES NOT IN ANY WAY GUARANTEE THAT YOUR SITE WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE DIRECTORY. Your payment only guarantees that Yahoo! will consider and respond to your request within seven business days, by either accepting or not accepting your site. You expressly agree to pay to Yahoo! such fee whether or not your site is accepted or denied inclusion in the Directory.

Please note: Yahoo! Directory does not accept listings for online gambling sites and prescription drug sites. Online gambling sites are those that have gambling as their central theme, including those that accept wagers or require payment in exchange for the chance to win prizes, as well as sites that offer both information and links related primarily to the promotion of online gambling.
2.2 In order for Yahoo! to consider your site for inclusion in the Directory, you must submit a valid credit card number as part of the registration form. You agree that your credit card will be charged the then-current, applicable NON-REFUNDABLE fee for expedited review and response.

Onlinebetting[dot]com doesn't have any affiliate links, and doesn't link to any gambling properties. Quite clever actually, they might even have got in for free. They just wait a while and then add the commercial side of it later.

They have most likely done the same. Applied without any gambling banners and/or affiliate links and added them later on. Since it's a huge directory would be hard to be checking every single site if it follows the guideline. I am guessing one can report them but what for...

I think the same method is often used to get listed on BOTW for free...

It doesn't help. I've done all of this stuff and still they don't accept my site. It is much easier to get listed in DMOZ
