There is too much going on simultaneously for a new site to contend with. With an established site, you can make some educated guesses (or, if your content is rubbish, then you should already know anyway).
So, the only thing you can do at this point is concentrate on content, content, content, content quality, content quality, content structure, content structure....a few links when and where sensible...site structure...and building your subject authority. Most likely none of those are significantly less important than others ..but without the content, none of the others make any difference anyway.
Every...single...piece of content needs to be the best you can make it. If you can't do that, the signs are it's a hopeless task for a new site. It'll be no surprise if G isn't actively dropping pages in the millions from the entire SERPs as we speak (and I believe they have been doing that for some time, anyway).
Consider it this way. Google is a business, with customers. Those customers 'buy' information. They want to trust the information they're given and know it's accurate. If Google doesn't deliver that, some of those customers will go elsewhere. And profits may drop.
Now put yourself in the same position. What would you do? Would you take the risk that a new source of information was trustworthy and had some longevity before it proved it was?
You might test it for a bit? See how people reacted? Watch out for any signals indicating it was trustworthy? And, if none of those were positive enough, you'd drop it, right.

So, all guesswork. Without seeing the site, that's all anyone could sensibly offer as an opinion that might give you any real value. Even seeing it will be hard to judge in the light of everything that's going on. But you'd probably get some reasonably well-educated guesses if you put it up for review.
