Slug language

I'm having trouble with a slug on my site of one of the yet-to-be-released language versions.

So here goes. I have a version in traditional Chinese with slug x.com/zh and the regional code zh-hant, meaning traditional version of Chinese.

Now I wanted to translate the site into Simplified Chinese and I have a problem.
All my pages with the zh code have already been indexed and I can't change it.

Polylang suggests using an ISO-compliant code. However, it does not exclude the use of custom code.

For Simplified Chinese, I used zh-hans regional settings.

I know that the solution is to use, for example, zh-cn however, all my languages have short slugs of es, zh....

I came up with a custom code that is not used, cn pages x.com/cn would lecture clean and neat.

And my question is. If in regional settings everything will be according to ISO zh-hans for simplified but slugs in links will be non-standard that is cn then can any problems arise with the site in search engine context?

Shouldn't. At the latest a proper hreflang tag can solve the problem.
But makes it sense to setup the site to rank in Google with the simplified CN version? Just asking.
The mainland you will never reach, while Taiwan would be a great target for your traditional version.

Precisely, the purpose of introducing Chinese simplified is to become partially independent of SEO, in case there are problems with ranking.

Chinese traditional was aimed at Taiwan however most of the traffic is from Hong Kong.

The version in Chinese Simplified will target an agent-based system.

I ask about SEO because I am also hoping for some increase in organic traffic from the mainland. Although I realize this probably won't work out. Although for the traditional language I have single readers from the mainland.
