    Default Swine Flu

I live in the West Midlands of UK which just happens to be the hotspot for swine flu in UK.

Over 50 people sent home from wifes work place as a precautionary measure against swine flu in the last week.

I feel as rough as a camels tongue in a sand storm. Headache, sore throat, aching all over, temperature.

I ate a whole pack of cocktail sausages yesterday!

    Scary **** man!

Outside of Mexico I think that the death rate is no higher than normal flu - and there are no questions about how many of the Mexico deaths may be false attributations.

Australia and New Zealand have significant outbreaks - caused of all things by classes of school children going to Mexico on a field trip for Spanish lessons ... (didn't happen when I was a lad).

There have been three deaths in NZ so far - all of them people who have complications with chronic existing medical conditions - and indeed that is normally where normal flu has it's impact.

So they've been on the news with general directions that might help.

The word down here is that if you are having significant respitory difficulty then you should get your arse to a doctor, but they are saying that you should phone first as many places have set up some sort of specialised centres for treatment where they can minimise cross contact with other sick people.

(ie if you do have it - then bringing you into a waiting room of other sick patients is not good for you or them).

If you're breathing is OK - then take a dose of the usual flu stuff - and give it 2-3 days. If you're still sick then see a doctor then.

    Gotta agree with Gooner...

People are manic about the swine flu here.. Although it's all publicised in a way to scare people.. They tend to miss out the part where the guy who died from swine flu had a heart condition or was suffering from a lung infection or something similar.

I travel down to Melbourne at least every second weekend and I haven't gotten it yet.. Although i see people walking around the airport with masks on.

A couple of my girlfriends are heading down to Melbourne in 2 weeks for my other half's birthday and one of them was telling me yesterday that she is going to go see her GP to see if there's any shots she can get before she goes.. I couldn't believe it.

I'd LOVE to get it.. 11 days quarantine at home (out of the office).... Hello?!

    Thanks for the advice guys.

Funnily enough i feel 80% better today but not 100%, the 20% of me that feels rough is probably down to hay fever anyway.

I had flu for the first time in 20+ years earlier this year and remembered how bad it can make you feel. Infact over the last 20 years i have had the symptoms come on in an evening, thought to myself, i dont want flu, took flu tablets and woke up in the morning feeling perfect. Personally i have put this down to something the army must have snook into my body without my knowledge that has lasted all these years.

Perhaps i have a good immunity to flu and can fight it off before it gets hold, who knows! I think i will keep that quiet before the medics decide they want info and try and turn me into a guinea pig.

As for the UK being sensible about stopping the spread, well, no such thing here.

The only part of the uk to have special walk in centres for this is the west midlands, where almost half of all uk cases of swine flu are to be found. The 3 centres that they have set up are in hospitals, so hardly going to stem the spread are they. Typical of the british attitude thaat we are above all this type of thing.

The truth is though as already said here, its the people with other health issues that it seems to kill. My only worry is that i am still awaiting results of what my other health isuues are from before.

My bro works in Casulty in Loughbourgh and he said they had 26 cases in a 2 weeks ago and Birmingham had 80 in one day - He said they were keeping it on teh downlow at the moment but his head of medicine or what ever they call them said he woudl expect 5000 - 10000 cases in the UK a week by Oct.

He said with most cases though they just send teh people home - Dangers are with pregnant women - definitely worth going though at least to get the medicine to sort your self out

Aren't we all (in the UK) supposed to be offered some kind of vaccine soon?

I think they are doing one but I think it will go to key workers first and when we eventually get it the strain will have changed and they will need an alternative - Apparently its now hit a level which means they won't test anymore just diagnose and prescribe on symptoms

60 people died during the past 30 days here in Argentina.
We are in an emergency and everything is closed for 10 days, pubs, gyms, schools, courts, etc.

The cold of the winter is a problem, so we'll see.
No shaking hands, no more than 3 people in the same store, bank etc, etc.

Tamiflu is effective only during the first 48 hs.
    After that there's risk.
    Well, is a little scary......

    Default We have It

Over 400 kids were sent home from the school where the child we foster had bad cases of the school. I think it is all hyped up as only 6 have died from it here in New Zealand.

My oldest grandson Mason who is just six now has swine flu. He'll be staying with me till the docs give him an all clear to go back to school and be around his little brother. Hopefully it does not get worse and he has to be admitted to the hospital.

I figure its just another flu like any other. Except this one has the potential of earning some real cash lol.

But then again I rarely watch the news and am probably really misinformed.

Just wait till H1N1 version 2.8 upgrade patch comes out lol

Thanks Skinski. They tell me he is ok and doing great. But I wonder if they just tell me that cause I'm the mom. Moms never stop worrying.
