    Red face T - 7 Days

So a week from now I'm getting braces

What I would like are suggestions for "The Last Supper" - aka the last night I will be able to eat anything awesome for 18-24 months.

Also, would be nice if people could post and tell me what they could and couldn't eat when they had braces.

I love steak, gum, and apples.. Apparently you can't eat any of those with braces unless you chop the steak up into tiny little pieces (which IMO takes the fun out of eating it), or chop the apples into little pieces (also not fun)... and apparently you can't chew gum at all! WTF?!

So apart from looking like a total nerd (which I was hiding so well before), I will now also have stinky breathe!

Is there anything fun you can eat with braces?

And yes, to answer your question, this is the most devastating thing for me getting braces, not being able to eat anything (besides sleeping, eating is my favourite thing to do).

Renee - I cant give advice as to what to eat while being on braces. However you do have your priorities set perfect.

I salut you all the way ie - favorite things to do

    1. Sleeping
    2. Eating

This is in co ordination with me as well.

However!! I must note 3 years ago i would of had to alter this

    1. Drinking Beer! (many many pints) - google eyed!
    2. Sleeping
    3. Eating

Of course there is one other thing i would like to add.. and of course it tops the charts, but for purposes of my point here will leave it out.

Well since you cannot eat (or eat freely) I suggest you remove that from your favorite list. It is no longer viable.

I suggest you alter your list to look like this.

    1. Drinking Beer till your google eyed every night - perhaps 10-12 pints.
    2. Sleeping
    3. Repeat steps above

Since its for 18 months or so, when its time to remove your braces you will not remember a thing.

    Ah, braces....

I remember that I wasn't supposed to have gum, sticky candy, hard-to-chew foods (like steak), nuts, and pop. The pop was the tough one, because I loved pop. No Mountain Dew, no Coke at McDonalds... Oh, the humanity!

If I was about to get braces again, my last supper would be a big steak with Coke, Mountain Dew, and Dr. Pepper, and I'd have an entire bag of caramel cubes for dessert.

Btw, did you know that Diet Dr. Pepper tastes more like regular Dr. Pepper?

Rather faggots (a great black country meal) than that wimpy southern dish of jellied eels YUK

You can take a faggots n paes bus tour of the black country eating the delicacy at no fewer than 6 pubs.

I am fortunate (in some areas) and skipped braces, but for the culinary area...

Appetizer: Shrimp Cocktail and a glass of fine Champagne

Garden Salad with all the fixings, Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing

    (sorbet before main course)
Bottle of LeCreme Pinot Noir, Napa
Whole stuffed main lobster (Imperial crabmeat stuffing please)
Medium grilled Ribeye steak with sauted onions
Baked Potato, butter, sour cream, chives and bacon
Green beans is mushroom sauce with French's Onions
Buttered dinner rolls, (plenty of butter)

    Desert:
Chocolate mousse (unless you can find Amaretto mousse)
    Cuppachino with DiSorrono Ameretto

A fine cigar to cap off the delights above.

Damn I just had southern fried chicken and was full, now my mouth is watering.

Sorry I did have my priorities out of order. Drinking beer should have come first, then sleeping, then eating..

You can still do that when you have braces

    OH!
    HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA

I didn't realise you meant the eating part. HAHAHHA
    GOLD.

You don't chew it though (well you shouldn't).

There is a saying here for beer: a steak in a cup. I might have to take up your new eating plan.. I just think I may gain weight though, which wouldn't be an ideal situation. Although not remembering anything for 18 months could be a great thing....

I don't drink regular "pop" (soft drink) anyway.. I'm diet coke all the way..

But I chew gum like there is no tomorrow... and I'm starting to like sweets, whereas I never really ate them before. Steak I will miss though.

I don't remember the last time i saw Dr Pepper in Oz... but I love it.. probably the only Aussie that does which is why you can barely find it now, but if I could get diet Dr Pepper, it would be my new love.

Steak does seem to be the popular option...

I think you would have been better off with braces mate considering all the bad luck you have had with the rest of your body

I may just give all that above to my mother for next Tuesday night.. I am so hungry now... *insert drool here*

Well Renee, the only things i skipped while i had braces was gum and caramel stuff. As far as steak and other meat, i ate it every night (my family were butchers), except for the day or two after the orthodontist tightened the wire.... then it was scrambled eggs and liquid.

I remember braces being a pain, but mainly when they tightened them and when a wire would pop and start poking my cheek.

Yep. Got them on yesterday... They hurt like hell. It took me 2 hours to eat my breakfast this morning.. and I have to say, the painkillers have just kicked in and I'm really enjoying them...

I have a feeling I'm going to be making the pharmacies rich over the next two years

Every time my mum looked at me yesterday, she laughed her hole out. Everyone in the office thinks they make me look like im 15, as if I didnt look only 15 already anyway

Will report back over the next few days. Hopefully they get better..

So thought I'd post an update.

It's been almost 2 weeks now since they were put on and I'm slowly starting to eat more. I'm still unable to bite anything though and I've been sticking to soups and pasta/rice etc.

I've dropped about 1.5kgs since I got them put on.. thats about 3.3 pounds. Going strong!

I have a feeling as soon as I get used to eating things that are a little harder like sausages etc, is when they will need to be adjusted and I wont be able to eat again LOL

Next time I am seen at a conference I will be like a stick. I'll turn on the side and noone will be able to see me
