Default For those trying to lose weight

    Hey guys

I figured since there were so many people posting that their new years resolution was to lose weight, I should share a program with you that may help.

It comes as an iphone/ipod touch app too, but for those without you can simply use the website.

    The site is myfitnesspal.com

The app is called My Fitness Pal.

Basically you put in all your credentials - weight, height, weight goal, your activity level, how many times you will exercise per week etc. You can also insert measurements for your neck, waste and hips. It will ask you how much weight you want to lose per week and then it will give you a number of calories that you can eat per day to lose that amount of weight and reach your goal.

The best thing about it is that most foods are available and if they aren't it's very simple to add them using the dietary information on the packaging. You can also add your own recipes to it.

You can also add your activities and it adds calories to what you can eat depending on how much exercise you do. It also lets you put in weights, asks you how many sets you do etc.

I started using it last week and have lost 1.1kg already - that was with no exercise. I'm back to the gym this week so I expect I will be skinny in no time.
Every day when you finish your daily food diary it tells you how much you will weigh in 5 weeks if every day was like today. I find it very motivating not to eat crap.

Anyway I hope you guys can make good use of it. Keep me updated on your progress.

    Good luck!

I was using iFitness for awhile but I found it not as good as this one.. I couldn't update my diary anywhere because I needed internet access to search the database and a lot of the foods I ate weren't in there, so I had to add everything.

This one is far more motivating too.

It can also help you with that. It asks how much weight you want to gain and tells you how many calories per day to eat etc..

Have given up on new years resolutions to loose weight - by the 2nd of Jan I'm already reaching for the Jaffa Cakes... it's a bit hard to loose weight in the heart of winter (when all you want to do is hibernate and eat chocolate)

HOWEVER - that being said - lots of good idea's in this forum, so may as well give it a go... (onwards and upwards... slimming world here I cometh!)

I have tried many of these things and the problem is that they are hard to stick to because you're depriving your body of something it needs..

Why not try the shake weight?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVogg_0Hhus
I thought about getting that but then it only does one thing. I have a weight set at home that can do the same..

IMO this is the best application

    Is that free?

    Renee.

It's not depriving your body of anything. It's about learning what certain foods do to your body so you pick the right ones.

For example, you stop eating processed foods.

You can still eat as much as you want, and as regularly as you feel like... just only good foods.

I've lost 7.5kgs in 7 weeks and haven't gone hungry - felt like splurging etc.

I'm not disciplined enough to keep a food diary but I work on the idea that everything in moderation. I have started my exercise DVDs first thing in the morning too, warms me up if nothing else!

The ones that get you to stop eating processed foods and stuff that's bad for you in moderation are the good ones, but there are some out there that make you exclude whole food groups which is not good for you..

Like the Dukan diet off the top of my head.. Although it does work (I've seen someone who has lost 20+kgs and kept it off), it's a full protein diet. You're not allowed certain things. Really, you should be eating a balanced diet..

I tried this diet that a friend of ours had tried.. The key to the diet was eating a soup that they provided the recipe for and adding other things every day.. So the first day you can only eat the soup. Second day you can eat soup and fruit. Third day soup and a smoothie. etc.. It was called the kick start diet..

The friend of ours who did it has lost over 10kgs and manages to keep it off.. But you're supposed to lose 4-8kgs in the first week (which is very unhealthy). None the less if you're desperate you'll do it..

I was so sick of soup by the 5th day (and so hungry) that I don't think I'll ever enjoy another soup in my life.

After 5 days I'd lost not even a kilo so i threw in the towel. My other half had lost 3. After I finished that I ended up putting on 3-4kgs.. which I'm trying to lose again now..

I don't think theres such a thing as a lose weight quickly without exercise scheme.

Congrats though. 7.5kgs in 7 weeks is a healthy amount to lose. Apparently losing 1kg per week is the best way to keep it off because it allows your fat cells to shrink. Losing more than that means the fat cells don't shrink fast enough and it's easier to put the weight back on..

When I was 19 I managed to lose 30kgs (I was 90kgs) just by cutting out stuff like soft drinks (or any drinks with sugar in them) and doing a few days exercise per week. I lost 12kgs just by cutting out the drinks. It's amazing how much sugar you're consuming that you don't realise.

Since I started working here (5.5 years ago now) I've put on around 10kgs.. which I'm now trying to lose. I'll get there..

It's good for everyone to motivate each other though.

Thanks for this great thread Renee.

I am definitely going to join. Need to tone up my muscles a bit and get back those tight abs from before my having a baby.

Although I can't complain, 50kg is fine. Boyfriend was complaining earlier today that I was too thin for a mum
