In general: use semrush, analyse your competitors, group the keywords into different areas (not referring to kw mapping which is imho for smaller affiliates a bit overrated but to silo-ing) and start with long tail keywords with low competition, go for low hanging fruits, but never write for google but for your audience. Monitor your kw, improve existing content and learn. Success will tell you if you are doing it right.

Everything depends on your semantic, target market and competing websites.

You have to analyze top-10, top-20 competitors using Ahrefs.

After you need to collect and group keyword and create a semantic core.

Analyze your keywords (check the search volume and difficulty).

Search for longtails (you may use them in FAQ section and they mostly have low competition).

And pay attention to keyword density 1% is optimal.

But of course the content is the king! Don't forget about that.

I have started to analyze all keywords with a strategy:
    a) Self-generate keywords which closest to each category.
    b) Use tools to analyze the keywords thought in step “a”.
    c) Collect keywords that are better than "Self-generate keywords".
    d) Try searching with the better keywords found in step "c" to find the main competing websites.
    e) Use tools to analyze competitors and find keywords that match the topic of your website.
    f) Done.
What do you think about my above strategy? Is it right?

    Lightbulb

in one of the Neilpatel classes: look at the most impressions and less clicks in the console and harden those keywords to get more clicks on missing words in the text or their sister words

i use semrush and wp paid plugins

There's an interesting website called AnswerThePublic dot com which I use regularly.

You can get pretty interesting keyword ideas there.

Answer the Public finds questions, comparisons, and related searches.

Let's you want to know more about "online gambling"

First you get related questions such as:

    how online gambling works
    is online gambling legal
what online gambling sites are safe

    Then you get prepositions:

    online gambling for money
    can online gambling be fixed
    where can you gamble online

    After that - comparisons:

    online gambling and taxes
    online gambling vs traditional gambling
    online gambling and law

As far as I know, Answer the Public gets its data from Google Keyword Planner and autosuggest.

It's definitely worth it to invest in a keyword tool such as Ahrefs/SEMRush/KeywordTool and search for some tutorials on how to use their various functions to determine your competitors keywords and analyze their SEO Strategy. Go for lower difficulty keywords with small to medium volume to start ranking

To do keywords research, SEMRush is already a nice tool with huge keywords database. Other Tool which I can recommend is Google Keyword Planner to do Keyword Research. Whereas, its already fine if you continue to use SEMRush. You can find the competitors Keywords as well as your Keywords that already ranked in SERPs. Sort all the Keywords analyzing your own websites & of competitors. Finalize the list of Keywords which matches your interest. Further, find related keywords & phrase match keywords. Target Keywords with low competition & low keyword difficulty. It's easier to rank.
