Tracking outgoing traffic

Hi,

I use /go/abs.php redirects for my affiliate links. In the past I managed to track the ougtoing visits through Google Analytics, but something has changed and can't find the way to do it.

Someone can suggest how to set it up?

I had this problem as well I used to use Statcounter which was good for outbound links but did not register my /go/ links. In GA I am now using Tag Manager which will allow you to see specific urls i.e your /go/ folder. It was reasonably easy to set up even for me.

yes.. but when analyzing live traffic, the quite a few are missed..

Be careful not to make too many tags as I found it slowed the site down dramtatically. I was setting up a tag for each link until I just set one up for a folder.

With the Google Analytics monster insights plugin, you can use the option "Set path for internal links to track as outbound links" and you just set the prefix "/go" or whatever yours may be. Then in Analytics you just go to Events and they show up there. Can't catch all, but it still shows most.

Yes, that's what i did. I see the total numbers per outgoing link, but don't manage to a integrate so it will show which pages generated the visits. I mean as goals.

You can do it by going to Behavior -> Events -> Top Events. Then you click on Event Action and as Secondary dimension you choose, Landing Page.

P.S Whoops your msg in my email differs from the one on the site. As Goals I never managed to get it to work, mostly because I didnt bother that much, looked at it once and that was that

But then you get 1 page for event. Doesn't show how many from each page.

Here it showed me for example SlotsLV casino - the number of visits and 1 page title (but of course the haven't all came from the same page).

Anyway, solved it. So just in case someone needs it....

After setting Monsterinsights as #Xecutable suggested. Set a Goal - choose the Event option, then in category field is the name of the event how it appears in the Events tab, for example, Outgoing-Visits-Link and that's it.

You can set it up easily by linking your Google Analytics account to a Google Tag manager account

You can use Google Tag manager. Is one of the best tools

We use pretty links to make Aff urls and these have hit counter built in.
Also setting GA to compare the results - will report back on findings
