Translating to Different Languages

All of my sites are in English and I am debating translating one of them into different languages. I know it is important to get a native writer to do so because of slang and knowing the correct dialect to make it look legitimite.

If I were just going to translate it into one or two languages which do you think will give me the "best bang for the buck"? I am thinking Spanish should be one of them as so many countries are spanish speaking. What other languages would you recommend to translate in to?

I would do it only for spanish now and see as it goes. As you are saying, native translator is a must but also with spanish you should consider if you want to target Spain or Latin America as lot of terms are not always the same

Go slow, and one lang at a time.. there are all sorts of penalties for this inside of google if done incorrectly.

The only thing I would say about Spanish is that unless you are going to target casinos who are licensed in Spain, I'm not sure how much success you'll have. Bear in mind that the South American market is incredibly difficult to convert due to limited payment options. If you are simply converting native speakers in the USA though, I guess spanish is a good bet.

Scandinavian countries are good, and seeing as you clearly don't mind working in 'interesting' markets such as USA, you could give France a go.

Good question. We're launching some campaigns there this month with a local platform. Let's see the result. No spanish version, but seems like english is pretty OK over there, as long as there are not too many explanations.

The same. Argentina, Chilie and Brazil. ~50% of my traffic at present days.

Spanish and other ,the country where you want your site ad on.

Think a common sense approach is best here. If you Speak any other language or have a strong insight into a local market, then make that your focus. If not, then it's best to avoid. I've worked with a gaming operator that tried to conquer the international market, without fully appreciating the difficulties/intricacies that each language has, and how difficult it is to build a brand in each market. I believe the same applies to affiliate sites. While you may rank for some keyword for a short period, in the long term, it's highly unlikely that you'd be able to maintain traffic & brand appeal, unless of course you are a native speaker & can build content that appeals to the local market you're targeting.

I would go for German and one of the Nordics, probably Sweden or Denmark ...

the german market is very good and the player quality is high. of course it is a market with a lot of competitors but if you are good then it is a good option. I would also recommend spain and maybe the nordics.

Spanish sounds like a good idea but as mentioned previously in the forum, I would go one at a time and choose between castellano or latin american. Maybe you could also analyse your GA data and identify which (non-english speaking) countries are bringing you a lot of traffic....

The first thing you must consider when translating your site to another language is your target market.
If you're target market's language is spanish then pursue it, if not then focus mainly on what your target market it.
It works best and easier that way. Though, when translating a language make sure it will not reflect as a duplicate from your other language.

Whatever language you choose, make sure to check out Fiverr.com - you'll get very good if not perfect translations for just $5.

If you are targeting European traffic I would like to suggest you German.
Germany has a good marketshare.

Then, Swedish (good marketshare too).

Avoid Italian (i'm italian... ) and Danish due to gaming regulations and laws.
Avoid Italian as hell: your site will be banned in Italy in two minutes!

fiver is probably not good advice.... just speaking from experience, best thing is to check out your local international students group (almost all unis have one) a quick search on Facebook will return it. And they work cheaply, but you'll get a native studying in an english speaking uni. It's better to pay $10/hr for something good than $5 for someone to put it into Google translate.....

I've gotten lucky perhaps then.. All translations I've got, were proper, and rank. I do agree, that a bit of luck is part of it.
